most of the more recent cunnigham's were in south shields and the sunderland area
there are a lot of thomas' born around this sort of era - so to try and ascertain the correct index so i can order his cert - where is north shields - is it in northumberland???

North Shields is in Northumberland,
Before I am shot down in flames, I had better say that North Shields was in Northumberland until 1974.
It now forms part of North Tyneside, which is one of the unitary authorities within Tyne and Wear. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyne_and_Wear

Humbug.
Can't help with your recent request on Thomas Cunningham , but the name Cunningham and the town of North Shields, immediately brought to mind "Freda Cunningham , which was the name of the ferry that ran for years between North Shields & South Shields.. was just wondering if this might be any connection to yours' I'm not sure who Freda was but a google search will probably unearth something. Just a thought! Dolly

Hi,
Don't suppose your Thomas Cunningham is related to a Thomasina Cunningham born around 1901.
Trying to find details about my paternal grandparents. but unfortunately not getting far. Thomasina married a John J Henderson in 1924 and had one son Robert.
Thanks
Sharon

Jen,
North Shields is only in Tyne & Wear as an Administerial Area, The local government act which came into force on April 1st 1974 did not change the geographical location.
This is my local:

They are my Cunningham family for sure. I have done quite a ot of research into this side of the family. If anyone matched the ones above I'd love to hear from you.
