Title: Advice on finding a record
Post by: pbell77 on Monday 01 September 08 11:07 BST (UK)
Hi my great grandfather Thomas Edward Taylor fought and died on the first world war (so I am told).  He lived in the Lanchester are of durham and was born around 1881.  He had a son in 1915 (sep) and apparently died sometime in the next few years.  I have been unable to find him.  Has anyone got any clues where to start.

Thanks

Paul

Commnwealth war grave commission has quite a few WW1 deaths of T E Taylor and T Taylor

maybe yu could start with a lok up on there

Do you know what regiment he was in??? or do you have any photographs of him in uniform.

Hi Paul

Because these things are often mentioned in records of War deaths, can you provide the names of his  parents and his wife?

Cheers

His wife was Edith Wilkinson.  Have not got his parents yet.

Will have a look at the Commnwealth war grave commission when I get a chance.  Thanks  for the replies.

Was your Grandfather (b 1915)  said to be  an only child?
There are 2 more births in Lanchester district to TAYLOR children with a WILKINSON mother:

Olive in Jun Qtr 1918 and Margaret A in Jun Qtr 1919

Could great grandfather Thomas Edward have died after the war was over but  due to the effects OF it,  rather than having been killed during it?

Cheers

I believe there where 2 others sons but I know nothing about them.

I am afraid I know nothing regarding his regiment etc.

I have so far been unable to find his exact place of birth but he married in Lanchester in 1907
