Title: John Jeffrey of Todburn
Post by: colmain on Sunday 31 August 08 16:11 BST (UK)
Have info on John's son William & wife Hannah & family, and other possible siblings Mary1790 & Ann 1796.

But hoping for more info on the father John himself.

Wm bapt 1792 Longhorsley St Helen's.  So presuming father John born between 1737-1774 at the outside most!

I have found 2 possible IGI entries -
                                                         1) John Jeffery = Ann Grey 1770 Newburn.  Children Geo 1771, Mary 1773, Dorothy 1785, Nicholas 1785 - all bapt Newburn.
                                                          2) John Jeffrey - children Mary 1790, Wm 1792, Ann 1796 - all bapt Long Horsley.

Can anyone help locate John & wife in the parish/census records?

Many thanks
Col

Hi Col,
On A**  in Alnwick 1841 there is:

John Jeffrey   65 (B 1776)  Labourer  b.Alnwick
Jane jeffrey   65                                          ""
Margaret jeffrey  10  (1831)
also some Fergusons

HO107/ 828/2  Alnwick

place right but not sure if this fits in with your Mary b 1790!!

will keep looking,  Diddy

Hi Diddy!

Yes I have copy of the 1841 census.  Also 1851 census which seems to be the same John, he is listed alone as a widow - HO107/2419/475/16 Alnwick.

So it makes him 14yo when Mary born..........mmm!

Thanks
Col

Col, don't forget ages on the 1841 were usually rounded - don't know about the 1851 - what age does it give?

It is hard to read that 1851 census age.  76 or 78?  Take age on census with grain of salt.  Not always truthful.

The 1841 says he was 65--so he could be up to 69 years old.

Assuming the Alnwick thing is correct - LDS has a marriage:

john Jeffrey = jane brown  16/7/1786
Ford, northumberland. parish records & dissenters.

Ford is in Alnwick district (Genuki)

above marriage is on the Bishops transcripts but unfortunately no further details given ie parish of john.

Initially allowed for the extra 4 years in 1841 census, but then 1851 census has him as 75yo - mind you I only have the transcribed copy, so perhaps the original  is a 76 or 78.

If he was 78  that puts him as being born c1772/73 which sounds better.

I really don't know!

Just got your last post thru now - will take a look at the LDS entry & see if it brings up anything/anyone  else.

If it was my John & Jane that again puts him at being 10 -14 yo at marr - bit of a worry this John!

Just to put the record straight, Ford is in Glendale registration district, not Alnwick.
