I'm having great difficulty in accesssing online.justice.vic.gov.au to search for two deaths. Is this usual?
Could anyone look for Walter H Ashton (b.1918) and Doris Ashton (b.1913)who sadly died, I believe, in the 1980's in a car crash in the Adelaide area.
Many thanks,
Fairlane

Are you looking for deaths in Adelaide or Victoria?
There are no deaths listed for either Doris or Walter Ashton up to 1984 on the Victorian Indexs

And they are not listed on the SAGHS newspaper indexes for South Australia for that time frame. There's a Doris Marjorie Ashton who died in 1970 and a Walter Hannaford Ashton who died in 1960.

I was thinking the same thing. If the couple died in Adelaide would the death not be registered in SA ??????
I had a quick look on the Ryerson Index nothing listed for those exact names.

South Australian Index only goes to 1972. The two I listed would be on it, and I could check the details. But.....they don't fit the time frame that Fairlane is talking about. :-\

Hello everyone,
Many thanks for your assistance.
Yes it is Walter Hoyle Ashton & family I'm interested in. Apologies for the awry geography between Victoria & Adelaide.
If SA death index only goes to 1972 it would seem that they won't show up yet and from what I have gleaned they were in their 70's so the timescale could run into the early 1990's. Is there a (roughly) 30 year rule for publishing of death index?
Kind regards, Fairlane

The limit of indexes varies from state to state...1972 in South Australia, 1985 in Victoria, 1929 Queensland, 1977 New South Wales...I think about 1940 in Western Australia...not sure about Tasmania.
Were your couple resident in Victoria at the time of the accident?...and have you attempted to contact any of the descendants? May be your only hope of finding out any details.
Cheers

Hi Cando
Thanks for your reply. I don't know where they were resident at time of death and the person who gave the information regarding car accident has since sadly passed away. By getting the death cert. I was hoping to find a place of residence to start searching for the rest of the family.
As I'll be offline for a couple of weeks I'll put this on the back burner for now.
Thanks to all who helped.
Best wishes, Fairlane

My name is Robert Ashton, I am the son of Walter Hoyle Ashton. What do you want to know about our family?
