I am facing a brick wall with my ancestor, and am hoping that i can have some help with finding out more about my Martin ancestors,
i don't have too much to go on with, only the date on when
William Charles Martin & Emily Mary White Married,
26 December 1886, St. John the Evangelist, Westminster, England
William Charles Martin's parent's names were:
William James Martin & Jessie ?
please also help me find out what Jessie's last name was.

William Martin 7 yrs b Westminster
parents William and Jessie
does this age fit in. Have you found William and Emily after marriage - do you know where they lived?
-
here they are in 1881 - dad is WIlliam J and son William C so looks likely
1881 RG11; Piece: 111; Folio: 36; Page: 66
you can view this yourself - also on Free BMD a birth 1863 for WIlliam Charles to back it up.

Heywood
Yes William J is the father of William Charles Martin, i have this information, it's anything before William J Martin that i'm Lacking.
-
I was confirming that the 1871 census fits in with the 1881 so perhaps I was on the right track ???
It sometimes takes quite a bit of foraging to come up with anything and you had given very scant information.
-
William and Emily married in St. Pauls Church, Clapham, Surrey, England, then settled in Westminster, England, where they had Emily Elizabeth Jessie Martin & Lucy Rose Alice Martin
-
I know that i didn't give very much information, but it's because i don't have too much, actually hardly anything, mainly just what i have posted.
-
That's ok and the one I found is listed as William with father William so there was no evidence to show that he was yours.
I then found that in 1881 the census has him as William C and father as William J so that confirms it hopefully.
You would then have siblings for William in 1881 - which you may have already found, although you didn't state that.
I thought you would be glad to have more information about the family- that is the siblings.
Now 1871 has two other siblings- who are not on 1881 and the next course of action would usually be that I would post that information once we have established that we are on the right track.
I asked where William and Emily were post wedding so that if necessary I could have found his place and date of birth from the census.
As it happens I cannot yet find them in 1861 - where they should be according to the ages of their oldest child - Jessie aged 11 yrs in 1871.
Nor can I yet find a marriage that would be around that year but I am still looking.
-
removed to avoid confusion - found the right entry :D
-
I think you may have to get a birth certificate for the William Charles born 1864 who seems to be yours to get Jessie's name. Then you could progress from there looking for a marriage.
Until then all is speculation.
According to 1881 William J ws born 1837- there are no William J's in the census for around this year - hence the one in 1861 gave you.
best wishes

I'll order a birth certificate for William Charles Martin, only i can't because of finances, but when i am able, may i have the link for the GRO, please.
-
Hi it's here:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/
it will be worth it - as I said going back before without the 'J' just supposes that that is the relevant one.
If you need any of the census details I quoted please post - I will put them on here for you.
-
don't get too excited but I may have found something here:
1881
William J and Jessie b 1840 Westminster have an Edward Saunders b 1803 living with them.
By backtracking - I have had to go to 1851 to get them together but he has a daughter Jessie b 1841 Lambeth but they are living in Westminster. His wife is Louisa and William and Jessie have a daughter Louisa too so there are some connections.
Do you want me to post this info?
-
no marriages come up though
-
yes please, and yes you can post the information if you want.
-
I have found them in 1861 ;D so have removed the earlier entry for William with his father.

There are a couple of possibilities in 1851 census for William but I have found a birth:
