Hi there everyone,
New to researching family. My Great Great Grandfather was Charles Dutch, born Salisbury,Wiltshire England, 1822. Not sure when he came to Australia. I was wondering how I could find out who his parents were? He died in 1884, NSW, Australia.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thank you

Hi Raina
Welcome to Rootschat.
You don't say if you have a death certificate for your Charles DUTCH? That might give you some clues..... or his marriage certificate, if he did marry here in Australia, should give one or both of his parents.
A check of the NSW BMD shows the 1850 marriage of a Charles DUTCH and a Margaret PATERSON in Scots Church in Sydney.
I also looked on the 1841 Census and there is this, not sure if he's yours though :-
1841 Census England Wiltshire Warminster
HO107/1187/59/10
Boreham Road
DUTCH
Benjamin 59 Iron Founder Yes
Mary 59 Yes
Charles 15 Smith's Apprentice Yes
William 10 Yes
Maria 14 Yes
Eunice? 12 Yes
It is impossible to know for sure that these are the right family without proof.... so I'd get hold of Charles' death and marriage and hope that something ties in .
Good luck
Cheers

Hi Karen Lee
Thanks for that. I have a baptism transcription for their child Margaret Dutch born 1851 died 1852. Father Charles Dutch, Mariner, mother Margaret Paterson, also have birth for Margaret Dutch 1860, it says Charles Dutch Laborer, Birthplace Salisbury, Wiltshire England. Mother, Margaret Paterson birthplace Hamilton, County Lanark Scotland.
I figure I do need a marriage certificate for Charles Dutch and Margaret Paterson. That should show me their parents names on it.
Thank you

Hi Raina , :)
I have been doing a project on a Mary Dutch ,born 1851, Salisbury, Wiltshire,
her mother was Martha Dutch born 1822, Salisbury died 1876.
the above census that rootschat people have found are Mary's family,
Mary Dutch went on to marry Dan Goodfellow in 1881,
they had children and after she died the family went through a bad patch, if you would like this imformation on the family, please let me know .
regards Eilleen. :)
