Title: John Noble of Brighouse
Post by: Malcolm Bull on Monday 25 August 08 17:17 BST (UK)
Could some kind soul please look at the 1851 / 1861 census to find a John Noble who was postmaster at Brighouse?

I have found him in directories for 1845, but other sources give him 2 possible dates [1792-1849] and [1804-1869].  FREEBMD gives so many hits as to be unmanageable.

Another source says he was a partner in fancy goods firm Helm, Starkey & Noble at [nearby] Rastrick and that he emigrated to Wisconsin in 1841, so it looks like we have 2 Johns

Any help would be appreciated.

HI Malcom

There is a public tree on Ancestry that has a John Noble born 1792 Rastrick/Huddersfield and dying in Racine, Wisconsin.  He had a wife called Martha Dyson 1795 to 1852.

They show in the tree a son called Lewis bn 1833 Rastrick.

So it at least gives you a time frame for you to search within.

Malcolm,
Are you still interested in the John Noble who emigrated to Wisconsin ? I have quite a lot of information on him and his family and have visited decendants who still live there on three occasions.

John Noble and his wife Martha are shown as living at Oaks Green, Rastric in the 1841 census and on the 7th August that same year, they left Rastrick for Liverpool, arriving on the 10th. They left Liverpool for New York on the 14th on board the 895 ton packet called the Garrick arriving in New York 31 days later.

If you require more info, please let me know.
