Hi,its me again with a real challenge!!
Taken from the will of William Hood dated 25.10.1892 Reading England
"To Harry Tanner sometimes called Harry Tanner Freeman son of my late sister Harriet Tanner now living in the Colony of Victoria the sum of four hundred pounds"
What's known about Hnery/Harry is as follows:
1 Born 1842 Newport Monmouthshire as HENRY TANNER. Parents William(died 1843)and Harriet Sophia Hood(1817-????)
2 Harriet Tanner 31, Eliza Tanner 10,HARRY TANNER 8 ON 1851 census with whom I believe to be Harriets sister Elizabeth 38.
3 Elizabeth Hood(c1813) is mentioned in William Hoods will as Eliza Freeman.
4 Cannot find Harriet in 1861 or the marriage of Eliza/Elizabeth to a "Freeman". Suspect Harriet has died between 1851-61 and young HENRY/HARRY has gone to live with Elizabeth.
What happened to Harry/Henry in Victoria,Australia??
Any help welcome if you can be bothered with this one

Hi
Of the boys, I can see that Francis Ernest Freeman joined up in 1915.
His record makes interesting reading and Melbourne addresses are given.
.
You will also get his parents' addresses. I am not certain they were together as there es a letter from Mother saying "My new address is..." ???Don't know.
He got into some hot water with the police as well as with the army!.
He was not married by 1942 which is when his second record shows up as a member of the civil consruction corps.you will get his South Yarra address.

Hi All,
Following the sucess of this line I am trying to establish when Henry/Harry came out to Victoria. I have him recorded in 1851 in the uk but lose track of him until 1875 when he marries in Victoria. It's a gap of 26 years--narrows it down a bit!!!
Thanks

John perhaps you may like to search the online passenger records for the period for arrivals in Victoria

Good luck ;D

You might also like to check the Australian newspapers online (incl. The Argus (VIC) etc ) here: http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home
Have found two related clippings as follows, although there could be more as the OCR text is still being fixed. (i.e. so words can sometimes be garbled before fixing which hinders searching for them; but you can always browse newspaper issues, or try different methods of searching such as wildcards (*) or letter substitutions (e.g. "Henry" could have been scanned as "IIcnry" or "Henrv" etc etc).

Hi John,
I researched this character many years ago for a friend (Norris line). I seem to remember that he was a border-hopper so perhaps have a look at NSW records too. Nice to find out who his parents were.
