Title: Connors and Fermoy
Post by: Sean O Callaghan on Friday 22 August 08 22:02 BST (UK)
Catherine Connors married John Callaghan of Fermoy. Co. Cork where they both lived. In 1860, she gave birth to Peter.  I have come across a mention of a John Callaghan and Catherine Callaghan in Fermoy in the 1851 census.  It is possible that they also had a son, John, who may have been a stonemason and another son, name unknown, who joined the RCMP.  I am working here from a mixture of memory of what my grandfather told me and the actual birth cert for Peter in 1860.  Does this link of Connors and Callaghan in this time frame ring a bell with anybody else?

Civil registration of births in Ireland began 1864. Is it a church baptism record you have for Peter (1860)? If so there could be other children in the church register.

IGI lists 2 children born to John Callaghan/O'Callaghan and Kate Connors (who may or may not be the same couple as Peter's parents):
Thomas O'Callaghan born 21 May 1871 Co. Cork
Kate Callaghan born 14 Aug.1875 Co. Cork

aghadowey- what would I do without you?  Thank you again for that fantastic information.  I tried the IGI index, but I must not be entering info correctly there.  I find it quite hard to use actually. I'm very grateful for your help.

PS- Forgot to say, it's a church baptism.

Think you need to go back to the church records, if you haven't already, and see if you can find any more information.

Found the IGI records very easily by doing a parent search. On Advanced Search page put in father's name and mother's name and nothing else then press search button. Then click on IGI results (right side of page) or scroll down to them.

Thanks.  Will do! I'm just finding my way around these things at the mo, but am continuously amazed at what can be found when you know what to do.  Thanks again.
