Title: Back Street Dundee
Post by: susan j on Thursday 21 August 08 09:40 BST (UK)
Does anybody know where exactly Back Street was in Dundee? I can't find it on any maps so I assume it doesn't exist any more or has changed name. Thanks
Susan

It was in the area of current West Street and Lorimer St, north of Dundee Law.  I'm looking on an old map, but can't get my bearings just yet.

Look on the NLS site at the town maps:

http://www.nls.uk/maps/townplans/townplans.html

Choose Dundee 1871-2, then the middle section

Move your mouse over the map until you get "LIV.5.3" appear and then click on that.

Back Street is right in the middle top, running north - south.

Hi Back street ran between Paterson Street and Loons road later extended to run between Byron Street and Loons Road, in 1928 the name Back Street was discountinued and renamed Milton Street
from a book called street names of old Dundee by Gillian Molloy.
