I am looking for some help please. :) Is it possible that anyone here could look for any records of Ernest Balchin. Dates are believe to be
b. 1905
d. 1980
place of birth: Brighton (Possibly)
spouse: Eileen Evelyn Watts b. 1920 / d. 2006
Married: ???? (Suggested may not have married until approx 1975 and maybe at worthing?)
This man is my grandfather and i know absolutely nothing about him and his roots. Oh I do know he was a fireman and it maybe he done some 20 - 25 years service possible in Brighton and also maybe London during WWII
Many Thanks :)

Hello Suz Thanx for your help. Very much appreciated. :) Regarding your last post did you mean what you said or would you have meant you looked into marrriages 1973/4/5 as 1873 would have been too early.

ooh - I thought I looked at 1975- but maybe I looked wrongly - that's what comes of living in the past!!!!
I'll take another look

Ah thats fantastic. Can I visit somewhere ie records office to obtain a certificate for their marriage and then their births. I have names for the parents of Eileen but nothing at all for Ernest. Would love to make some some more progress with Ernest :)

you can apply on line at the GRO using the page and volume no given
cerificates cost £7

Unfortunately I have difficulty obtaining things online as I don't own Credit / Debit cards. Hence the need of help if possible from others for searching as I also have difficulty paying to use search sites like ancestory.co.uk. :)
I am getting reading to go for a round trip to pick up certain certificates and I am trying to find out as much as I can before I go which in turn will save on some future journeys. :)

unfortunately you have to order certificates -you can visit the appropriate reg office and pay for and order a certificate, but you will still have to wait for it arriving by post - they don't just issue them over the counter.
You can apply by post - postal ordes are a good way to do it
Worthing register office
Centenary house
Durrington lane
Worthing

you can even download a form to apply by post
just google Worthing register office - you will get their site
I actually prefer to send for my certificates from the appropriate registry office.
It's not like you see on such programmes as heir hunters - they can walk straight in and get their certificates -but the general public have to wait!

Ah Suz thats fantastic. Thank you for that info. ;D That will save a bit of petrol too. :)

You could always ring them before you order -I often do this and most of the staff are very helpful
