My Great, Great Grandfather Frederick Walter Simes was
born in Sedlescombe in 1850 before moving to Gravesend around 1878. I do not know where he or the family lived in the meantime. He married an Emily and had three children Frederick Charles, Arthur and Norman born after 1880.
Does anyone have access to the 1861 or 1871 or 81 Kent
census and could find Frederick? He may have been living in Hastings from 1860 with his mother Caroline.

Can you give us any census to start with? There does not seem to be any match that I can spot.
Alternatively give kids's ages and birthplaces, or addresses for BMD certificates.
It may be that his name is mistranscribed and birthplace is listed under a bigger town. Where is Sedlescombe near?

Hi Pauline
If you could have a look on the 1861 Census for Caroline Simes and her children that would be great. I think they may have been in either Sedlescombe (near Battle) or Hastings in 1861.
Caroline Simes born Caroline Crouch in Hastings c1815 age 46 in 1861
Augusta Simes born Sedlescombe in c1847 age 14
Caroline M Simes born " in c1849 age 12
Frederick W Simes born " in 1850 age 11
In 1851 they were at Hancox Farm Whatlington.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Catherine
You say that Frederick was in Gravesend by 1878. Do you have an address for that reference?
Any address on marriage?
Do you know when/where any of the children were born?
Do you have Fred & Emily on 1891 and 1901 census? If so could you post details please.
Best wishes

Thanks very much for this - it's certainly filled in a few gaps.
Caroline Simes had a lodging house on White Rock Road Hastings in 1867 so daughter Augusta must have carried it on.
Frederick W Simes is living in Darnely Road Gravesend in 1901 and by then is a seed merchant with a shop on New Road Gravesend.
Thanks for all your help. Where do you get all your info?
