Hi,
Looking for Eleanor Wise (christened St Dennis York 1818) marriage to Thomas Jameson, living in Hull 1841 with child <1 year old. Can't find any reference to the mariage on BMD and Thomas Jameson died before 1851 census so no clues to his birthplace.
any help appreciated

Wow,
where did you find this? No links to Rotherham that I know of but i do know the Jamesons travelled quite a bit (know almost nothing about the Wise')
any suggestions to follow-up?
thanks again

Does the 1841 say he was born in or out of county? You could always write direct to the local register office in Rotherham and ask if this is the correct couple. Presumably you can give her father's name. They will usually not charge to check and will return your money if it is wrong, provided you enclose SAE. Cheque for £7 to Superintendant Registrar usually works.

Thanks,
Thomas is born in the country. I have sent an e-mail to the registrar in Rotherham but the Rotherham district looks quite big and split up - depending on where in the district they were married, the records could be in Sheffield or Rotherham - still its a start! I have several references to Eleanor born in York and there is a family that "fits the bill" but can't be sure! Fathers name could be John Wise and Mother Charlotte.
Ultimitly I am after identifying the right family for Thomas - there are a number of near possibilities in Hull but nothing fits well - I suspect he is from elsewhere (I suspect Nth Yorkshire or Durham)

Many thanks to all, Got the marriage certificate and 99% sure it is correct. Thomas has a profession of coachsmith - which I know is correct - and Eleanor Wise (or Ellen on the certificate) has a father named John which was my best guess based on Wise families in York at the correct date. The problem it gives me is Thomas's father is Joseph. I had no leading contenders for the father based on census / igi etc. But i have very few Josephs around. Still one step at a time. Really need a lead on the location and father now....back to the drawing board!!
thanks again for the help
