Title: Jute or Rope Factory Liverpool
Post by: gillbill on Thursday 27 January 05 01:29 GMT (UK)
My Gt.Uncle William Henry SULIS was involved in a jute factory which

I believe was near the Docks.  He became a Director but I think the

factory had another.  Could anyone find him on the 1891 Census

when he would be abt. 9.(Father William James Sulis)

I would be very pleased with any info about where exactly the rope

works was & anything else about.  Wm. died on the Wirral if anyone

knew of him I'd to hear from.

Hi Iria

I don't know Liverpool very well but is Kingsley Rd near the docks?

The Great Uncle I'm tried to find out more about lived at 43 & 82 Kingsley Rd.  He was living at 43 at the time of the 1891 census
when he was about 9/10.  Do you happen to remember the name of the factory in Kingsley Rd?  I think the name had Davies in it but
that may have been a persons name as opposed to the factory name.

My family's name was Sulis (not common). Do number 43 or 82 still
exist as I'm trying to take photos of all the houses the various
relations have lived in where possible?  If not do you know what type
they might have been eg terraced, a number of families in one house etc.

As you live in Liverpool do you happen to know anything about the housing in these streets that varous relations lived in. Northumberland St. Grinshill St. Vronhill St. Toxteth St. Roseberry St.
Violet St.  I think they came under West Derby, Toxteth Park on the
whole when I've looked on the census or maybe Everton.

Sorry to ask so much but books tend not to give this kind of thing.
Thanks

My great, great, (great?) Grandfather moved from Scotland as a McGregor and started up a rope factory in Liverpool in Victorian times.
He changed the family name to Gregory.
I was wondering if this is the same factory?
