Have you seen the death record noted in the B. C. Vital Statistics for a Walter Edmond Slocock who died in Vancouver August 23, 1986? Can not find him in either the 1901 or 1911 census.

Hi John
Thank you for the reply and information.
Can I view in England the death information you noted?
if so where please.
I have a postcard written from a A Reed in England to him in
what seems to be 1909.
I would like to try and return it to a family member.
Thanks again for reply.

Sandy,
The BC Vital Statistics site http://search.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/sn-2AA394E/gbsearch is a BMD index like the GRO index is in England. So it doesn't have the actual records. However, I can get the record at the local library and will pick it up in a day or so. I will let you know when I have it.

If he was born in 1908, he should be with parents on the 1911..Can't see any other Slocock entries...
http://www.findmypast.com/passengerListPersonSearchStart.action
has a Walter Slocock b. 1908 / male / year 1956 / Southampton to Canada / port Montreal...but that doesn't help much...

The thing is, there are so few Slocock to speak of in Canada that there are none even listed on the usual phone search site http://www.canada411.ca/

Sandy,
I checked for an obituary in the Vancouver paper for Walter Edmond Slocock and found nothing. His wife is shown as Jean Slocock and is the informant on his death record which I sent. Today I checked for an obituary for Jean Slocock age 69, who J.J. mentioned earlier, died September 20, 1992, but could not find an obit in the Vancouver Sun. Too bad I can't get her death record but it is too recent.

Happy Anniversary! :)
I do wish we could have helped...!! J.J.

HI J.J.
You and John have most certainly helped.
Thank you once again.

Walter Edmund Slocock was actually Irish which is why you have not been able to find him on the UK census returns etc. He was born in Carlow in 1908 and you will find him on the 1911 census of Ireland www.census.nationalarchives.ie

Welcome to Rootschat, ashdod
yeah I guess that was never stated in the actual thread, which we should do in case any descendants see the thread ...The death had him as born May 8 1908 Castletown, Ireland his wife Jean Langlands has also now passed...https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FLLF-YM7
He had a third name as well...Walter Edmund M Slocock https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FBP9-527
I don't think there is aany other information to be dug as as not her ancestor...but I think Sandy was hoping to give the family the postcard she had in her possession...so all we can do is wait until a rellie claims it...

I know he certainly had a son who is mentioned in a very old edition of the Palestine Police Old Comrades' Association newslettter - Mr Slocock enlisted in 1931 and left round about 1938. I am researching a PhD on the involvement in Irishmen in this force which is from where my interest in him derives.
