Mary Woods was married to William Woods in Luffenham in 1836. She was born in 1817. Could anyone tell me what her maiden name was and her parents Christian names, please. Thanks very much.

What county is Luffenham in?
Is it Rutland?

Hi Ricky,
Yes I know, I live in Rutland just wanted to be sure.
There is forum on Rutnet for local geneology.
Maybe you have tried already but some users have local church knowledge.

Hi Jottmuffin,

Thanks so much for doing that.
When is Smudger back?

Hi Jo,
I have had a reply from Mike regards your question.
His gg grandmother Mary was William's sister, so although he has William in his tree, he also has no information on marriage details to Mary.
He seems to think 1836 marriage date could be wrong as there is no such date recorded in Luffenham Parish records. Did you get 1836 from LDS? They are not accurate from my experience.
William was living with his parents and brother in 1841 census.
Harriet I believe was William and Mary's first child she was not born until 1845 and according to Mike there are no suitable entries before that date.
I will send you a PM with my e-mail and will also pm Mike.
Best wishes Kim :)

I am looking for any information about Mary Hales. I need to know if her birth is on the parish records. I think she was born at Edith Weston in 1816, possibly November or December. She may, according to my Uncle, have gone to work at Belvoir Castle as a maid. She married William Woods in 1845 in Grantham and I have ordered the marriage certificate, which has not arrived yet.
I would be grateful for any information. Thanks.

Sorry Jo I do not have the records for Edith Weston.

OK, thanks anyway.

The IGI for Edith Weston only goes to 1812 but there is an LDS member submitted entry for a Mary Hales baptised on 1st December 1816 at Edith Weston, parents Thomas and Catherine. This ties in with a marriage entry at Edith Weston for a Thomas Hales and Catherine Dorman who where married on 19th June 1802 (c/o Leicestershire Family History Society).
Best however to check the registers at Leicestershire Record Office.
Regards
Mike (from Rutnet, guessed the original enquiry was from here!)

Thanks for that information.

Please could Mike from Rutnet advise me where I could find a list of employees at Belvoir Castle from about 1828 to 1841? I am trying find out if Mary Hales worked there, probably between these dates. Also, apart from contacting Belvoir Castle itself (who were not willing to help), where could I get access to records of life there at that time. Thanks. Jo

Jo
Other than Belvoir Castle itself, the only thing I can suggest is to see if any of their archives have been deposited at the Leicestershire Record Office.

Thanks Mike.
I have found out today that Belvoir Castle have a new Archivist now, so I am going to write again and see if I have more luck this time.
