Hi, Thought someone might be interested in this,
Banff Preservation & Heritage Society are producing a new Book Of Banff, it will include over 200 photos of things like The Banff Highland Games c1930, Banff Bridge Railway Station c1900, Salmon Netters in the Deveron, Banff fire brigade 1897, and lovely things like that. The Publishers are www.halsgrove.com. You can subscribe on line £19.99. It is due to be published October. Personally I cant wait!!!
This is just a small selection of the Family Names recorded in words or pictures in the book.
ALEXANDER,BURNETT,CAMERON,DONALDSON,EWAN,FORBES,GEDDES,HENDERSON,INNES,KENNEDY,LINDSAY,
MACDONALD,ORD,PATERSON,RENNIE,SHAND,THAIN,WILSON,YOUNG.
I have a leaflet/order form that lists 100 family names recorded in the book, I don't know anything other than the surnames, but if you want me to check to see if your family name is listed let me know, unfortunately this is not a comprehensive list its just a selection.
Anyway, hope someone finds this interesting.
Best Wishes Nic.

Hi Nic,
Just read your entry. When you have time could you possibly check whether the book includes Cowie, Farquhar or Smith in it's listed names.
Thanks kindly. Heather

Hi Nic
Thanks. Our family name is on your list! And my grandfather worked on the railroad in Canada where he lived since he was in his early 20's, until the time of his death in 1982 at age 91. So, I can only guess he may have worked on the railroad in Banff. Interesting. Thanks, I just may have to see if I can get a copy in Canada.
Cheers, Jim

Hi. I have many ancestors from Banff, mainly Forbes. Would you be able to tell me what references there are to the Forbes surname within the book? We have no photographs from that era. Thank you.
-
Hello The Seeker
I have an Annie Ingram Forbes in my research, married in MacDuff, 1887 to John R Gordon. Does this match up with your tree?

Hello Far Away,
I've had a look and I cannot seem to find a match. There could be a link somewhere but it might be further back than I have currently researched.
Yours faithfully,

If the book covers the Banffshire area in general would you be kind enough to check for the names Morrison, Lobban and Donald please? My main interest is Grange area of Banffshire. Also interested in any help on how to go about getting a photograph of Brambleburn Farm there. It was bulldozed a couple of years back and Morrison descendants are desperate to see what their ancestral home looked like. Any help at all would be much appreciated.
Kind regards
Karen

It might be worth getting in touch with the architects for the new Brambleburn house as they would probably have taken photos of the site before it was cleared.
-
Of course, I just never thought of that! Will try and find out from the local planning office who the architects were. Thank you so much, Warble.
