MARRIAGE lookup please.
Names: John CARSON and Jane CRAIG
Year: Circa 1823
Location: Possibly Ballymena.
DEATH lookup for son of John CARSON and Jane CRAIG.
Name: John
Christened: 07 Mar 1824, Kirkinriola.
I suspect that this child died in infancy.

Civil registration of births, deaths and Catholic marriages in Ireland began 1864 (from 1845 for other marriages). For earlier dates like you are looking for you need to search for church records (if they exist). To do so you need to know the family's religion and where they lived (parish if not actual townland- 'Ballymena' covers a large area and could refer to the town of Ballymena (in which there are many churches) or the wider surrounding area).
Are these two events something from LDS site by any chance?

Thanks for your reply aghadowey. I've a feeling that the family was Presbyterian but will chase up records on file and respost
later in the day.
Thanks.

Had a quick look and John Carson (1824) is listed in IGI but as a submitted record.

Christening (1824) as transcribed from Ballymena Parish Records (Kirkinriola) film #0990408.
Thanks anyway for your post re BDMs - I now have a better understanding of the system.
Cheers!

My Great grandfather was David Carson, and he was reportedly born in Ballymena around 1830. I wonder if he was a relation?. I understand that his father was also called David and his mother was Martha. Does anyone have a link between these 2 men? David migrated to Australia in 1858 and arrived in Portland

More details on your first post-
I am chasing information on David Carson, my great grandfather who was born in Drummell (according to his headstone in Terang, Australia) but it may be Drumaull (Ireland) in about 1830. He migrated to Australia in 1858 and married here the next year, to an Irish girl who arrived on a different ship. Her name was Martha Denney (or maybe Denny), possibly from County Down. Her Parents were Joseph and Sarah (nee Donaldson) and David's parents were David and Martha (nee Naird). I would like to find out if David had brothers and sisters ans if they too migrated, or stayed in Ireland. We went to Ireland recently looking for information, but it was not until the very last day that we might have stumbled on some clues, but by then it was time to come home
Haven't seen Naird before- wonder if Martha's maiden name was Baird?

Re Naird being Baird? Anything is possible. We understand that there was a lot of mis-pronunciation of names when people got to Australia, so Baird could be correct. I will start looking down this avenue now. Thank You.
