Title: Cox family from Melbourne?
Post by: Suzy W on Tuesday 12 August 08 01:04 BST (UK)
Hi

I am trying to find the birth parents of Florance Amy Cox born in Melbroune around 1885.
The family moved to Christchurch New Zealand when she was only a small girl, sorry no record of any shipping for them either.
Any ideas on where to look?
Regards

Thanks.

Had a look at the burial records for Christchurch but no Matthew William Cox, they had one Mary who died in 1925, but she lived here for 63 years coming from England at the age of nine.
Will have to look at other burials around New Zealand for them.
Maybe any shipping records may give us more clues.  Florance would of been about 5 when the family came here.
Her burial records shows that she was born in Melbourne and she married James Steer around 1910.

What you'll find on a Victorian certificate of birth
Births
Date and place of birth; name of child and whether present or not; name of parents (including mother's maiden name); occupation of parents; ages and birthplace of parents; date and place of marriage of parents; previous children of their marriage noting living or deceased; signature, description and address of the person who gave the information; names of witnesses; date and place of registation.

You can also download the certificate on  line for about $17.50 aus
