good afternoon all.
Have managed to trace my tree back to my ggg grandfather..William Hunt, born in 1839 in Burrington,Somerset.1881 census shows him living in Bethnal green with his family, and working for the Police.
I"m trying to trace back further than that, but can"t seem to find any listing of his birth/parents,and have come to a standstill.
Any help would be much appreciated. ;D

Hi Chris and welcome to Rootschat
Do you have a copy of William's marriage certificate as that will show his fathers name
I've checked the 1851 census and there are 9 possible entries in the age range of + or - 2 yrs either side of 1839 but none b Burrington
-
The 1871 confirms his birthplace
10 East Side Bethnal Green
William Hunt 38 b Burrington Somerset Police officer
Eliza 38 b Faversham Kent
William 6 b Bethnal Green
Eliza 3 b Bethnal Green
Mary A 1 b Mile End
RG10; Piece: 488; Folio: 58; Page: 30

Do you know Eliza's maiden name?
This is a possible marriage
Marriages March qtr 1862
Eliza Fountain Bethnal Green 1c 421
William Hunt Bethnal Green 1c 421

thanks Carole for the replies.
I don"t have a copy of the marriage cert unfortunately,or Eliza"s maiden name.
Im very much at the beginners stage to be honest, but the info you"ve found will no doubt help. Thanks for that.I will have a go at tracing back..i"m quite looking forward to it,but it"ll no doubt be a minefield lol.
Much obliged and many thanks

Hi Chris
A copy of one of their childrens birth certs will give her maiden name to make sure you have the right marriage
-
thanks Carole..i"ll go down that route.
Got the bit between me teeth now,so to speak ;D
-
Carole..if your still checking the thread,it looks like he was born in 1833 not 1839 >:(
sorry to be a nuisance. If any more info could be got from that,i"d be very grateful.
Cheers
Chris

Hi
I'm checking - he's 1833 in 1871 and 1839 in 1881. However - when I checked the 1881 image - he is 47 but has been transcribed as 42 so definitely around 1833
I'll get back to you

This has got to be him on the 1841 census for Burrington - the only entry for that district. All born in county but relationships nwere not shown in 1841 so I don't know who Jemima was. The image is very faint but I think William was a carpenter
William Hunt 40 carpenter
Harriet Hunt 30
Stephen Hunt 11
William Hunt 9
Alfred Hunt 8
Mary Hunt 6
Albinia Hunt 4
Jemima Hunt 45
HO107 Piece 933/4 Folio 11 Page 16
I'll check for 1851

wonderful stuff Carole, thanks ever so much

well this has certainly helped me no end with the line i wanted to trace.I"ll go on further with it if i can.
The ironic thing about it is,i"m from London but moved down to Bristol in 99.My missus is from here.
Burrington is about 8 miles away!
small world as they say

I've done an 1861 search but just cannot find William anywhere

Hi
I actually meant William the policeman but now you mention it - I couldn't find his parents William & Harriet either in 1851 let alone 1861 so you may be right about the early deaths
