I'll have a look in the Slaters Trade directories later on... and let you know what I find.
Do you know any occupation or address details ?
Shane.

thanks shane,
i dont know what slaters includes but john is listed as a ag lab on the census living with his brother in law michael o'halloran (also a aglab) they are listed on this page of the census living in kilfernora
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/1901census/kilfenora_ded_kilfenora_town49_21.htm
unfortunately this is all i have on the family , ive been a bit wary of applying for my nans birth cert as although we all knew her as norah , i know when she applied for a passport she had some hassle as they didnt not have anyone of that name and said her name was something like honara? which she herself took great umbrage to . so i dont even know what her real registered name was.

Slaters is an equivalent to todays yellow pages - mainly concentrates on Gentry, Shops, Businesses and the larger farmers.
from Slaters 1881 :
Kearney Patrick, Ennistymon - Grocer
Kearney Patrick, Ennistymon - PUBLIC HOUSE.
no - O'Halloran's listed
Slaters : 1894
Kearney Patrick, grocer & publican
no - O'Halloran's listed
(no farmers listed for Ennistymon)
It seems the alternate spelling is Carney and both names are common in Clare on Griffiths valuation with about 70 listed. This would only include people who leased or owned land, which may not apply to a young Ag. Lab.
1855 - Parish of KILMANAHEEN
Connor Carney, Leased a House from Denis Rowan on 'Lane off Church Hill St, Ennistymon"
Mary Carney, Leased a house from Frances Tobin in Deerpark West (near Ennistymon)
I'll have another look in the directories under the Carney spelling later on...

It should be possible to guesstimate the year of marriage for John and Kate - if they are both 26 and the eldest child in the house is 6 then presumably their marriage would be around 1894?
GRO Dublin should have that... and since you know both surnames you would be sure of a match.

thanks for your help shane. i will have a look into getting john and kates marriage cert .
its funny really as my nan norah was probably the person i was closest to out of all my relatives but she is the person whos branch on my tree i know the least about . i really must get over to ireland one day soon and have a look around , do you come from the clare area yourself?

I'm based in Dublin, with recent roots here, further back my connections are Dublin City & North County and Co. Wicklow as well as Yorkshire & Cambridgeshire. One couple in my tree lived & married in Offaly/Kings County which is much closer to Clare.

Hi there. My grandfather bought my house from the Kearney's back in the early 1900s. There are two houses, still standing, which were used by the Kearneys as a "hotel" and pub. I'e been in contact with another descendant Byford Lee (I think) and his sister in recent years. Contact me only at (*)
Cheers

Hello,
My name is Mary Kearney and I am the daughter of Patrick Joseph Kearney. My Dad originally came from Ballingaddy, Ennistymon, Co. Clare. He emigrated to England for a period and met my mother Anne Brick (R.I.P), married and returned to reside in Co. Kerry. If you think there may be a connection, I would glady love to hear from you. My father was born in 1933 and comes from a large Family. His mother's name was Kate born in 1900 and his father was Paddy (Patrick), off hand I do not have his year of birth and he had passed in 1972, the year I was born. In the mean time, I will reach out to my father and ask him the family history. I look forward to hearing from you.
Respectfully yours,
Mary

My husband is the grandson of Mary Kearney who left Ireland and immigrated to Boston MA. She arrived in Boston on 8/12/1913. Mary Kearney married Thomas F Manning and they had 2 son's, Thomas F Manning and John P Manning. We visited the Kearney homestead in the 1973. My husband Terrence met with his grandaunt Bridie who I believe had a son named John. We knew the name of the city where they lived, so we inquired at the pub for information. We knew the son raced dogs, greyhounds, so we were given directions to their home. My mother-in-law, Ruth Manning corresponded with Bridie, and Nora who lived in England. We also traveled to England, and met with Nora's daughter, whose name I believe was Christine. She very kindly invited 3 Americans to dinner at her flat in London. Her husband was a Bobby and I still have a pin he gave me. Unfortunately, we don't have much information either on the family. Once my mother in law passed we lost all records, so I've been doing research in Ancestry and was unable to find anything. I did find information on the LDS website which helped me. I do have some photos which appear to be from the 1950's. This thread started in 2008, so I hope, I believe it might be Christine's son sees this. Joanne Manning 01/25/2022
