Hi Both,

Have you looked at the image - there appears to be two Henry and Alice's!  At 3, 5 and 7 Chapel Street.

What's that all about?

Kenny

Were you maybe referring to your other thread and asking for Dorothy's maiden name?  :P

If so, this looks nice:

Dec 1843 Chorley 21 247
Edward Moon - Dorothy Rosbottom

Hi Steve

Joseph Moon baptised 4th May 1854 at St Mary's RC Church Chorley 7th child of Edward Moon & Dorothy Rosbottom. Married 15th Sept 1880 at St Ignatius RC Church Preston to Emma Jane Cross born Hornby 1853.

Edward Moon born 1821 at Eccleston near Chorley married Dorothy At St Gregory's RC Church Chorley.31 10 1843

Had the following children:
Edward b 1845 Chorley d 1855 Chorley
Henry b1846 Chorley maried Alice Smith 1867 Chorley
Ralph b1848 Chorley married Margaret Jane Fryer 1871 Euxton
Agnes b1849 d1850
Winifred b1850 d 1853
Joseph b1853 d 1853
Joseph b1854 m Emma Jane Cross
John Edward b 1856 d1944 m 1878 Mary Deborah Catterall
Margaret b 1857
Jeremiah James b1859 d 1886

Edward's parents were Ralph Moon & Agnes Taylor
they were the first catholic Moons from the lineage coming from Eccleston.
Ralph was born in 1778 in Leyland and died 1859 in Eccleston
Agnes was born in 1780 and died in 1865 at Mawdesley
They were married at Chorley in 1805

RAlph was the son of Henry Moon b1753 Eccleston d1808 & Ann Fish who were married at Leyland in 1776

Henry was the son of Ralph Moon b1724 at St Michael's on Wyre
died 1793 at Eccleston. married Elizabeth Stock at Upholland in 1752

Ralph was the second son of Henry Moon & Alice Porter who were married at Kirkham in 1720. Henry died in 1772 at Eccleston & Alice died 1763 in Eccleston

Henry was the eldest child of Robert Moon the first to settle at Eccleston
Robert was born in 1674 at Newton with Scales and died at Eccleston in 1749. He was married to Margaret.

Henry's parents were Henry Moon b1639 in Woodplumpton  d1705 at Catforth. Henry married Dorothy Grimbaldeston b1639 at Kirkham died 1716 Woodplumpton.

Henry's father was Robert Moon b1617 at Catforth. He died at Catforth in 1691. he married another Alice Porter at Kirkham in 1637

Robert's father was another Henry born 1587 at Hollowforth near Woodplumpton

Henry's father was Robert Moon born 1557 Hollowforth and died 1615 at Woodplumpton his wife was Alice Dilworth

I do know Robert's father was also called Henry and he would have been born around 1527.

From these Moons have descended the hundreds of Moons from in & around Preston & Lancashire in general. Some of the Eccleston Moons became Mormon pioneers in the 1840's and were some of the first to convert to that faith in England.

Another branch of the family were later made Baronets.

I have alot more information regarding the siblings of Joseph Moon your gg grandfather as well as his father's families as well.

I can let you have any info that I may have if you are interested.

Hope you find the information useful
Kind regards

Stuart Dawson

Hello,
My GG grandfather was John Moon b c1809 - farmer in Eccleston. His father was (I think) was Ralph. Just regarding your information re Edward Moon b1821 - could John and Edward be brothers??

Thanks

In the information above, JASD has and Edward (1821) with a Father, Ralph. I have followed this up on his Tree on GenesReunited and he indeed has a brother called John on there, but I can find no solid information of his, or Edwards birth.

I have found Edward's marriage record which states his parents are Randolphus and Agnes. I have also found Edward living with Ralph and Agnes in the 1841 census. But I just cannot find the last piece of evidence I need, which is his birth or baptism record, or that of any of Ralph and Agnes's children

Other than that, there is a John Moon from 1809 that has a Father, Mathias and Mother Alice.

Thanks for this. I had found a record of Mathias Moon on www.familysearch.org  however I am pretty sure that this is not our line - although I think there is a link a little further back.
Mathias family it seems were the mormon pioneers and my John Moon was a Catholic - this fits with what  JASD has said - Ralph and Agnes being the first catholics in Eccleston.
Did  it the GenesReunited tree give a date of birth for this John Moon? - the 1861 census indicates he was also born c1809

There are two Johns of 1809 on his tree.

The first John (1809-1850) as I mentioned with Father Mathias.
The other John (1809-1880) with the Father Ralph. This one is married to Ellen Barrow (1813 -1891)

He also has a John Moon (1808-1895) Married to Ann Bonny. This John's parents are Thomas Moon and Ellen Hardman.

I know this is an old thread. Thomas Moon and Ellen Hardman were my direct ancestors. I discovered them only recently. They were Catholic. They had a large family, most of whom survived to adulthood.  2 of their sons had a wife/wives called Ann Bonny; I don't know if she was the same woman. The elder son died very soon after he married Ann.
I'm descended from a granddaughter of Thomas & Ellen. She married a William Moon from Kirkham.

I found this thread through looking up Moon in Surnames Interests. I saw that JASD had included Salwick in the places connected with Moon. That's where Thomas & Ellen lived.

A new thread this week is about a book "The Moons of Amounderness" by Robert Cunliffe Shaw. The thread was started by zannette.  Shaw also wrote books about Kirkham.

JASD lots of good info in your post, and glad to see my own research confirmed as correct. Regarding Henry Moone b1527, I have him as a tenant of Moon's Farm, Hollowforth, near the water mill on Barton Brook. He was my 12th great g/father. Another Moon built Moon's Mill. Regarding Mathias Moone b1775 m Alice Plumb these are cousins of mine. He and family all went to USA and the children/descendants are in Utah. I believe they converted to Mormans through the agency of visiting preachers. A very interesting site is adventurersinfamilyhistory.blogspot, and I'm still after that Moon book!
