Alfred J REDSULL married Margaret BRETT Q4 1911 (Eastry 2a 2341).
Margaret BRETT was born Q2 1891 (Eastry 2a961).
I've not been able to find either of them on the 1901 census, and I can't seem to find a birth registration for Alfred either.
Would someone be so kind as to cast a fresh pair of eyes on this please?

That is a very good probable, thank you very much, ricky.
I've ordered the marriage cert for Alfred and Margaret.
That's a pity about the 1901 for Deal =( but at least I now know why I might not get anything turning up.

There is a birth registration for an Alfred James REDSULL in the December quarter Eastry registration district 1887 ref. 2a 971 or 2a 974 (hard to read)

Hello,
I have just found you.
ALfred 's mother was Jane Solly Cory, daughter of William and Sarah Ann Solly.
William was the son of my gt gt grandmother Mary Ann Baker Fitall by her her first marriage.
I have lots of information about the Redsull and Cory family.
Can I be of any help?

Hello again,
I have just checked my notes and find that Alfred married Ellen Caroline Roberts at St Leonard's Church, Deal.
I have cross checked the information on the Kent Registration Services web site,
Did you find you have the right marriage certificate,
Yvonne

I've just looked through and I haven't had the cert I ordered for Alfred's marriage yet (I'll have to call the post office tomorrow - they have a habit of hanging to my post for some reason).
My grandfather Edward Arthur John REDSULL (born Jules Jeffrey DEVOS) was adopted by Alfred James and Margaret REDSULL in Deal/Eastry when he was 6 weeks old.
They were unable to have children of their own, so he grew up as an only child with them.
It'd be nice if I were able to sort out exactly who his adoptive parents were though.
I know there were a large number of REDSULL's in the Deal/Eastry area.

I could not find Alfred James Redsull on the free bmd, but found him on the Ancestry.co.uk index 4th qtr 1887 and on the census for 1891,
On the free BMD it gives the names Margaret Brett and Ellen Roberts. On the Kent Registration web site, Alfred matches Ellen Roberts with the no 421.
Margaret matches William Piper with the no 420.
So when you get the marriage certificate it should give you the correct information.
The information on the internet is not always right.
I am in contact with Pam Davies, who grandfather was Percy Redsull.
Look forward to hearing from you again.

Just noticed the date on this thread.....but Alf was my Great grandfather! He was a funny old boy. I thought he was a pirate because of his eye patch.

Thanks Yvonne.... I didnt need any info as already had it, just was nice to see people talking about Alf! He was still alive when i was little, my grandfather (Robert, Alf's son) use to take me to his little terranced house in Albert Road, Deal on a sunday, so I could ride the horse he kept in his back garden!! I was a little scared of Alf, he seemed so big and gruff and had a leather eye patch, due to losing his eye during the war!

I dont subscribe to Genes Reunited!! Maybe I should lol

This may throw a spanner in the works but maybe you can shed some light on some ramdon info my grandfather gave me. He said he vaguely remembers his grandfather ( however, by the dates, his GF died a few years before he was born (1929) so im wondering who he is describing.... Ready... Apparently everyone called him 'cil/sry' he was a well known character in deal, he described him as a big man, with a long white beard, which he used to tuck into the top of his trousers!! Never worn a shirt or shoes and was a 'barefoot shrimper' do you have any ideas who this might be??
-
Hi Claire and all Redsulls
I have just joined this site, had no idea about it until Yvonne Scott told me Claire was on it. I have no info for anyone but my tree is on Genes Reunited if anyone cares to have a look. You all seem to have so much info and if I need anything I will be sure to ask. I was born in Cavell Square, Mill Hill in Deal to George Edward Redsull son of Percy and Grace. We moved to Watford when I was very young when my dad got a job in the print - it was better than going back down the coal mines. I have a lot of cousins in Deal as my dad and Auntie Gladys were the only ones to move away. Thus I do not have the ability to 'go looking' but the next time I am in Deal I will take a list with me of graves and graveyards to visit to look up my ancestry.

Ooh, hello all.
Apologies for lateness in replying but wow it's always lovely to have new eyes to old posts.
Well, in the end it turned out my mom had given me the wrong names for my grandfather's adoptiveparents - they were actually Arthur and Mary not Alfred and Margaret (I have the adoption papers now).
Given that Claire is a descendant of Alfred that would prove it's not possible that he was also my grandfather's adopter (is that a word?) as the couple who adopted Ted were unable to have their own children.
To fill it all in Ted was adopted by Arthur REDSULL and his wife Mary STEVENS.
Arthur being the son of Arthur REDSULL and Emily SCOTT; Arthur snr the son of Alfred Henry REDSULL and Caroline BENTLEY.
I haven't really looked any further back as while Arthur and Mary were "real" parents to Ted, they aren't really my ancestors.
By golly there were certainly a lot of REDSULLs in the Deal area, doesn't seem such a common name now.
-
Hi all
On the subject of there were lots of Redsulls in Deal but not so many now. My grandad Percy Redsull and grandmother Grace had 11 children - 2 died in infancy and one around age 7. Which left 8 - 6 of which were girls - so no Redsulls born there. My dad had 2 daughters - so no Redsulls again. My uncle Les had 1 boy and 1 girl. So out of many many grandchildren there was only my cousin John to carry the name forward. Such a shame we are 'dying out'. I remember years ago when we used to visit there was a Redsull Avenue and a butchers I believe.
Haven't had much time recently to go searching but now the winter months are coming I hope to 'get my head down again'.
Regards to all.
