I wonder if anyone can give me any help with the Petty Family of Leicester.
They are present on 1891 Census (RG12/2499/23)
Frederick A Petty age 30
Laura Petty age 27
Florence Petty 8 (from whom I'm descended)
Minnie Petty 7
Frederick A Petty 4
Thomas Petty 3
Laura Petty 1
I cannot then find the family on the 1901 census. Any ideas anyone?
Thanks in advance.

One of the main reasons we can not find family on the 1901. census returns is that
They could be transcribed under a variants of the spelling of Petty
Lots of the returns were transcribed by persons who’s 1st.language was not English.
Or The whole Family was overseas with their Father
who might have enlisted in the forces.

mmmm well he's with someone who is 20 years his junior. Think he was married to Betsy (Elizabeth) Poultney prior to Caroline (was living with the family in 1841). Will have to order some certificates to check though.
Also had a mental block - descended from Frederick born 1861, then his daughter Florence! Been staring at this too long today.

OK that's too clever for me, I was just going on guesswork. Where did you find all that information? I'm new to researching Leicestershire folk - more used to North Yorkshire.

Can anyone help me with this as well. Looks like Caroline remarried in 1865 October quarter (7a 402) but I cannot find out who she married. I wonder if this is the clue to finding Frederick on the 1871 census ie may have been put under his mum's new name. When you look at free BMD there are two women listed and only one man Thomas Smith and I then can't find a Caroline Smith so probably not that one. Any ideas anyone?

I really do not mind doing the look ups……
The information comes from my Discs ( 28) I’ve built up from
The Leicestershire & Rutland Family History Society
Of which I’m a member……….
Looking at those Baptisms (Parents John & Caroline ) they are all for the same day 28th. March 1864.
Just wonder why ? as John had died by then if that Burial details is for him
are correct.....
Which I believe is right
So PLEASE continue to ask for help & I'll try and help you.

Sorry to ask again but I wondered if anyone had access to Hinckley marriages prior to 1837. I am looking for the marriage of Charles Petty and Mary ?. Their first child was born in 1836 so probably just before this. Charles was born in Atherstone in Warwickshire and was a hatter but I have no information on Mary except that she was on the 1841 census in Hinckley with Charles and their two children Mary aged 5 and Caroline aged 2. It does note that Charles wasn't born in Leicestershire but the others were. Ref HO 107/601/6 page 15.
