My uncle James Charles Worrell was born at Padiham, Lancs in 1890. He served in the Coldstream Guards from Sept 1914 to Maech 1919. He won The MM in 1918. The last record I have of him is being in Nelson Lancs on the 8th March 1919. Does anyone have info after this date. Did he emmigrate to Australia or Canada.

Fred, Tried to find something on James Charles Worrell, and the closest I could come up with was the following on the Canadian Archives Immigration Database using spelling variants for the last name:
"James WORSELL; Age 35; Nationality: British; Date of arrival: 1925/03/15; Port of Arrival: Saint John, New Brunswick; Ship: Melita (Canadian Pacific)
Reference: RG76-Immigration Series
Volume: 1925 Volume 2
Page 104
NOTE: Due to the poor legibility of the original indexes, some of the information may be incorrect and/or incomplete."
Here's hoping it might be a start...

Thanks Meg. There was a james Worsell in Kent in the 1901 census when he was aged 12 This probably fits better than my James who was born on 3 May 1890 and would have been 34 and 10 months on 13/3/1925, although he might have rounded his age up. Is the writing sufficiently good to differentiate the s in his name.. If there is some doubt do you know which port the ship sailed from, and is it pssible to locate his death.

Thank you VERY VERY MUCH Thelma for this information. I think he must be the man I have been searching for and given up hopes of finding. The date of birth tallies within 2 days of the one I have from his age given when he enlisted in the Coldstream Guards on 7 Sept 1914, also he was born in Padiham which is next door to Burnley. He was my uncle by his first marriage to Grace Mary Stringer on 4 Aug 1917, she died from influenza on 29 Aug 1918.
H e was awarded a gallentry medal, The Military Medal (MM) in August 1918. He was also awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. I sit possible to find out if had any children after arriving in the USA. I would like to find out what happened to his medals? Are their any medal dealers in the LA area who might be able to help?
Once again thanks for the info.
Best regards,
Fred Stringer.
