I am trying to trace my husband's ggrandfather, Nathaniel Lett. Nathaniel migrated to Australia in 1860. His marriage and death certificates state that he was born in New Ross, Co. Wexford and his parents were Thomas Lett and Mary Shea.
Does anyone have any information on this family. I was looking at various sites this morning and I think they might have come from the Clonleigh area of New Ross.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have hit a very big brick wall with this family.
Thank you
Annie :)

In the the New Ross section of Slaters Directory 1846 there's a Benjamin Lett , Esq. Robinstown - Nobility, Gentry & Clergy section, no other Letts but plenty of Howletts....
You may already have seen this but in Griffiths Valuation there is a Thomas Lett with about 136 acres in the Parish/Townland of CLONLEIGH which is close (5 miles) to New Ross. This entry is dated 1853. There is only one other Thomas Lett listed on Griffiths for Co. Wexford and he is located in KILMUCKRIDGE, which is over 40 mile to the north of New Ross.

Thank you Shane. I had looked at the Griffiths Valuations and found Clonleigh but I hadn't looked at Slaters Directory. I'm pretty sure that my Thomas is the one at Clonleigh, the trick is finding out more information :)
I will look up Slaters and see what I can find. I'm sure there aren't too many Letts around.

Hi Seanmac, thank you for the information on Lett families in Wexford. I have sent a message to G.H. Lett but so far have not received a reply, but always hopeful.

If you can get hold of a copy of Houses of Wexford, it lists several members of the Lett family, also giving details of their homes.
At No. 198 "Ballyvergin House, Adamstown" (not far from Clonleigh) - the information on the Lett family begins in the early 1700s.
The index at the back of the book makes reference to 27 separate members of the Lett family.
Cheers

Hi Annie,
I am doing research for a new book on the Lett family in Ireland and maybe able to help you as I have a previous history of the family published privately in 1925.
Get back to me on this board and I will let you have my contact details.
Best wishes.

Hi everyone!
I was wondering if in your research you have come across an Elizabeth LETT who married Thomas MAYNARD 1808 in Newtownbarry.
Please let me know if you have come across any MAYNARDS and in particular, any Wilkinsons in your Wexford research.
Thanks in advance,
Tim Wilkinson

I have over the years researched the LETT family heavily, my connections being through a twig in Australia and a natural curiosity of the link between this family, in Ireland, and Tasmania, India and other places.
So if you are still interested I would like to make contact with you, firstly through this medium.

Hi Cara,
In your research do you have an Elizabeth LETT marrying a Thomas MAYNARD, about 1808?
They had children born in Newtownbarry.
Cheers
Tim

Myrna Grace, I also have Lett Sealy and Jeffares in my line. As a matter of fact my GG father's name was Lett Sealy Jeffares. He owned Jeffares Bros. Grocers on Main St Wexford.
