I have an old photo of a lady taken in the late thirties or early forties. I think it could be my mother. When I look at photos of our family I can see a likeness. Somebody suggested that there may be a place where I could send the photos to and they would be able to work out measurements on the face and compare it with my family photos. Has anybody heard of this as I certainly haven't.

Hi Anne :)
I know there is a facility to do this in some software called "My Heritage" http://www.myheritage.com/ - not sure how reliable it is, though.
Alternatively you could post the photo that you're interested in, and one of your mum, on the Photo Restoration board here on Rootschat, and we could try to make objective comparisons :D

Have a read of "Cazza's Scanning Tutorial" and some of teh other links at the top of the page, for info about the best way to scan and post your images.
