Title: Thomas Bird and Esther and daughter Esther Hastings/Ore area help needed
Post by: janet bird on Tuesday 25 January 05 07:44 GMT (UK)
Can anyone help.  I know that Thomas Bird went to the Hastings/Ore area in approx 1930-1950's with a lady by the name of Esther and they had a daughter also called Esther I do not know if the daughter took the name Bird or not.  I know its a long shot but any help would be appreciated.

Thomas left his wife Rose and his son Matthew who stayed in Kent.  Thomas' father Matthew also died in the Hastings area in 1957 aged 72.

Hi
I don't know if this is of any use,but I have checked my 1968 copy of Kellys Directory of Hastings and there is a Thomas Bird listed as living at 1 Edward Terrace, Hollington. Regret no other details as only head of household is listed in Kellys. There is also a Mrs. F.E. Bird listed as 13 Winchelsea Road, Ore, probably no connection to Esther.
Hope this is of some use, you may be able to check an old voters list for these addresses to see if any others are there.

Gill

Thanks for that info.  I may come in somewhere later as Matthew Bird married someone called Flo - so that may be the Mrs F Bird in Ore as I know they resided in the Hastings/Ore area, also as Matthew died in reg dist Hastings in 1957 she would be the head of the household - so could be very likely.

As for Thomas - again not sure at the moment but again I will have to investigate this further.

If anyone else can help - I would be very grateful.

Thanks for your information Gill.

I have run this past a relation I have yet to meet and she says she is sure that Thomas did reside in Hollington.  Thomas would have been my husbands granddad.  Also Mrs F E Bird we believe to be the second wife of Matthew Bird who died in 1957.  Any suggestions on how I can find out more about these people - who would hold the electoral registers?

Kind Regards

Janet

Try Hastings Library:

http://www.familia.org.uk/services/england/east_sussex.html

They will probably have or know of the whereabouts of lots of other useful stuff  ie newspapers etc..

Hi I believe that the Thomas Bird you are searching for is in fact my Grandfather he moved to 1 edward terrace with Sarah Ann and my mother Esther.  He did in fact have a previous wife called Rose and a son called Matthew.  Hope this helps.
