Post by: l00pi1 on Sunday 27 July 08 05:40 BST (UK)
Hi,

I'm looking for more information on my Twining side of the family and have hit a brick wall in my search, if anyone has information on the Twining family I would appreciate it if you could share with me your find.

(5th GGF) Thomas Twining 1775 M Ann
7 kids from 1792-1811
John, Mary Ann, Harriett, Ann, Thomas, Eli, Sariah
All born painswick.  ??? John's birth place some suggestion he was adopted??

(4th GGF) John Twining b1792 m Mary Smart 1814 Painswick
6kids from 1814-1831
Thomas, Hester, William, Mary, Caroline, Elizabeth.
All born Painswick

(3rd GGF) Thomas Twining b1814 m Barbara Wright in Tasmania

Sent to Tasmania after he was charged with embezzlement in the Parish of Painswick 10 Aug 1836. Transported on the 'Recovery' in 1837

Require more information on first Thomas if anyone has it.

Cheers

Lynda,

Before I start any search for anybody I always try to find the provenance of the given information.

I cannot find where you obtained the above - I have not checked any of the other info.  I presume "1775" is a birth year.

Where was the above found please for I have some info from Painswick records?

Regards

Chas

Hi Chas,

Yes 1775 is the birth date of Thomas but it is only a guess, I am not 100% sure where I got the info from, but the best place I think I would have gotten it would have been the 1841 Cencus records.  I just can't find the info right at this point in time.

I'm also starting to think John (Thomas' son) (who is my direct ancestor) was born in 1795 not 1792 there are so many different dates and ages associated with the family.

I'm sorry I haven't got the correct info for you but any help is greatly apprecited.

Cheers
Lynda

Lynda,

I'm thinking that you have not reached the right brick wall.

I think it might be an idea for you to go to http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountryEngland.htm and check out the records extracted from Painswick church records because you seem to be up a gum tree at the moment.

Sorry not to be more help.

Chas

Hi Chas,

Thanks,  Looks like I may have the wrong name instead of Thomas and Ann it's Thos and Ann but I haven't found John to link to Thos and Ann which is a little scary as he is my direct line.  So if I can't link him to them then I have the wrong family.  D'oh who invented Family Research  ;D :D

Hi Lynda

Can I ask you a Question about your 3rd GGF Thomas, you said he was transported to Tasmania how do you find that out.  Because I have one in the family as well, he was the brother of my 3x GGM Eliza Twining.

Hi Anne,

I had a lady in Tasmania do some research for me, she found the info of my convict family member, Thomas Twining.

What is the name of your family memebr and do you know which state he landed in?

Hi Anne,

I just found a Jacob who landed in Tassie in 1836.
Check on this site:
www.archives.tas.gov.au/nameindexes
Click on Tasmanian Convicts, type in Jacobs name.

Dear Anne

See that Eliza Twining is your 3x gt-grandmother. My husband is descended from Eliza's brother, Henry.
Yes, brother Jacob was transported to Tasmania, but I do not know what happened to him.

Hi Anne

Thanks for your PM.  It would appear I am unable to send a PM to you.

We know next to nothing about Thomas Twining, and not much more about Samuel. Have two possibilities for parents of Thomas - unfortunately both Thomas & Samuel are extremely common names in Painswick.

Regards
Sandra
