Title: Edmund COX
Post by: wendy47 on Saturday 26 July 08 23:01 BST (UK)
Hi

I have an Edmund Cox b abt 1813. He states he's b in Wilts N K in 1851, Symington, Wilts in the 1861. Is there a place called Symington? I found Semington.
He married Jane Green in Biiton, Glos just before the 1837 records started (April), which I found in the IGI but I can find no trace hs birth. He died in 1870.
Are there any avenues I can look up online?

Hi Wendy47

You might like to contact Wiltshire & Swindon Archives for the parish records:

Hi Wendy,

The first thing that springs to mind given the similarity we see between the letter S and the letter L is its Lymington. Lymington is in Hampshire (but not far too from the border)  I have been checking the enumerators writing and they certainly are similar. Most of his L's have a big loop on the bottom where his S's have only a half loop but when looking through a few pages I find some are almost identical to this one. ;)

I looked in 1851 and only came up with Edmund Cox, born abt 1820 in WIL Etchilhampton and Edmund Cusse, born abt 1814 in WIL Salisbury.   Neither of these were married to a Jane.

Cheers Dave

Hi Dave

Thanks for that. My Edmund was already married and in Bitton, Glos by 1841. He was between the ages of 25-30. I think I shall have to have a look when I'm next in Somerset later in the year.
Best wishes

Hi Wendy,

I only joined today so have come in rather late to your query regarding Symington, Wilts. I thought you might like to know there is a Semington, between Trowbridge and Melksham, in Wiltshire. This could be the place you are looking for!

Good Luck!
