On 51 census it shows as follows...............
32 King Street, HO 107/1526 f.175 p.33
Isabella Davey, Head, W, 68, b. Scotland
Elizth Davey, Daur, U, 29, Tassell Maker, b. London St.Dunstan
Jane Twitchin, Daur, W, 38, b. Jersey
Elizabeth Davey, Neice, 15, b. Midx St.Lukes
its the last entry that Im trying to discover if she is my g/g/nanna.

Thanks for that Debs ........... you have 'untied' something that I have been uncertain about for years.
Wm. Wilmott died at Brentford 1849 so that's why Jane is a widow in 1851.
I assumed that Jane had died in childbirth with her son in 1838.
It is now quite clear that there were twins that died... William and Jane (same as parents).
Another mystery is that a 'Jane TWITCHIN' married a James MEDLYN here in NSW in 1856 .............. I never found out where she 'fitted' in my one name study .................... until now!!
She was the Jane in the 1851 census .......... and she died here;
MEDLYN, Jane CD 609061 Death
Father: Benjamin
Mother: Isabella
Index Year: 1886
Reg Year: 1886 Reg State: New South Wales
Ref Number: 6162
You will note that her mother is stated as "Isabella" which clinches that.
With your own research what have you discovered since 1851 regarding;
"Elizabeth Davey, Neice, 15, b. Midx St.Lukes" ?
Have you tried free BMD? 1861 census?
If she was a 'niece' to the head (Isabella) who were her parents and where were they in 1851?.
I suppose it could be possible that "Elizth Davey, Daur, U, 29, Tassell Maker, b. London St.Dunstan" could be her mother indicating that she may have been born when her mother was quite young ............. possible seeing she had the same first name.
It happened in my line.

you came to the same conclusion I did regards to the two elizabeths. If it is my elizabeth (neice) by 61 census she is married to richard davidson. I cannot find that marriage or her first son birth also same area - st lukes, MDX. This is getting so frustrating. Are this family still together on 61 census I wonder................because it might clear up a few things for me ggrrrrr....
cheers for getting back to me

OK ......... where do you guess that the DAVIDSON's were in 1861?
and what was the first name of Richard's and Elizabeth's son?
joboy
-
Their fist son was named Richard born st lukes, mdx and by 61 census they were at 1 William St, Stratford, West Ham - District of St John's
but it gets worse because on this census they have been to Cork, Ireland between 1857 till then and had two children Margaret and Robson aged 3 and one who died by 71 census in Newcastle. Now I know they returned to Newcastle because Richard seniors father Robson died. His occupation was down as engine fitter so its either the railway or something to do with boats. My great aunt recently said he had invented a whell but doesnt know what for. She is always dropping clangers like this because two years ago she said that Elizabeth Hannah had connections with the Coombes of London brewers. She is now in her nineties so I dont think she would make stories up and wouldnt of been aware of the famous Coombe family.
the saga continues.................................lol!
debs
-
Yeah ...... that's messy!!
Have you thought about concentrating your efforts in the Newcastle area?
Lots of industries there who would employ an engine fitter ...... and the fact that they travelled a fair bit makes me think he might have been chasing work where his skills might have been in demand.
A good site to follow up Newcastle is;
http://www.thenortheast.fsnet.co.uk/Pioneers.htm
And the railway had only just opened up in Cork so he may have been involved in that expansion.
Of course,if you have'nt done so already you could post (in rootschat) what you know about the Davidson's in Newcastle.
Best of luck,

My starting point was my wife's grt grandfather, who was married to a Catherine from Kingsclere. I acquired the wedding cert which proved she was Catherine Twitchin. b 9/5/1826, m 18/7/1852 Westminster.
From Ancestrry.com and the fantastic Kingsclere site www.kingsclere.org.uk, I have built a list, which I can send off list in pdf or doc. contact me at rogercorti@aol.com
