Title: Rickards
Post by: bircle on Thursday 24 July 08 14:11 BST (UK)
My fathers, father was James Beales Rickards who was married to Maude Mary Clarke. James Beales was born 1880,Birmingham. His father was John Edward Rickards, born 1849, Salisbury, UK. His father was Frederick Rickards born Winndelsham 1823. He married Sussanna Baker Godfrey in 1843 at West Drayton.

James Beales and Maude Mary were divorced. She lived near to Manchester
after WW1. I believe James moved to Leamington Spa.

Both my grandfather and my grandmother came from sizeable family groups.
John Edward married Elizabeth Beales who came from near to Leicester.

I wish to identify any of the families to which I am related. I do have various names and birth locations.  I now live in France and these connections have acquired a special value for me.

Welcome !

In what way do you wish to identify these people  - can you be specific as to your requirements ?

For example, the Census can provide this sort of detail - here's your Frederick in the 1851, he's moved away from Surrey (Windlesham / Bagshot) and also from Susanah's West Drayton PoB to Salisbury ..

1851 - HO107/1847; Folio: 222; Page: 30 - Salisbury
Milford Street

Frederick Rickards 28  Head Postmaster & Corn Merchant  born Surrey, Bagshot (part of Windlesham Parish)
Susannah Rickards 27  Wife Middx, Longford
Frederick Rickards 7  son Hants, Yately (just west of Bagshot on the A30)
Benjamin Rickards 5  son Hants, Farnborough
Susannah Rickards 3 dau Wilts, Salisbury
John Rickards  1  son Salisbury

Henry Bunger 28  Servant Driver of Mail Cart
Mary A Bunger 18  Drivers wife
John Godfrey 15  Servant (shop boy)
Fanny Lodge 19  House Servant

from a quick look, it seems that they wont be hard to track thru the census years....

That has cleared up one item of inherited confusion: he was a corn merchant. I am still puzzled why and how he moved from Berkshire to Salisbury.
John referred to as age one year later moved to Birmingham and married Elizabeth Beales from Leicester. He was my fathers grandfather.
Fredericks father was also Frederick born 1799 at Winkfield, Berks.

I am gratefull for any help: thank you.

Berkshire ?

The kids were born in Yateley and Farnboro - Hants / Surrey / Berks borders ... by 1871 they are in Aldershot and it looks like they went there via London from Salisbury, based on youngers kids PoBs.

Just shows how mobile they were then ... I guess he started off being Post Master - by 1871 he is a commercial traveller ...

I'll transcribe a few more census, but if you want all the family individuals followed, hopefully others will pitch in....

I have Frederick Rickards, born 1799 Winkfield Berks, married to Jane who was born 1792.

Fredericks parents were Benjamin and Charlotte.

I have Sussana Baker Godfrey married to 1823 Frederick in 1843 at West Drayton. Her parents were William Godfrey and Mary. William was born 1800 at Harmondsworth to William Godfrey(b1775) and Susanna Baker(b 1775).I have them married at St Martin in the Field 1792.

I am interested particularly in trying to get back to the Civil War era and possibly earlier.
Also, due to the divorce of my paternal grandmother, I wish to find any modern family connections who wish to communicate.

I am grateful for any information about this family group, they seem to be there one year and then vanish again. I know my father was born in Birmingham and later moved with his mother and sister to Manchester.

Any further information is welcome: thank you.

Hi Bircle, I have an interest in the Rickard/s,they are an interesting family and have I some anecdotes, I am writing the history of my family as my three  grandchildren are Spanish so I have to leave our British origins for future generations!
I am descended from John Rickards born 1796,I believe he is the brother of your Frederck born Winkfield 1799.l I hope I  can get to the Reading Records Office in the next twelve months to try and tie them all together.
I'm not sure how this site works but if you can send me your email I can send you what I have.

Yes: I am not sure how it works.
Any family connection would be interesting and as you say they are an interesting lot, so interesting they are difficult to locate.
I would like to get back to the English Civil War era but that looks like asking too much.
I am not sure how to copy my e-mail address to you but it is in there somewhere.

I only signed up this morning,it took me an hour to open your topic thread! It seems there is a way to send private message,I'll work on it. I would like to have look at my other family names but I can't work out how to open the names in the index but I shall spend a couple of hours looking at it.Problem is I've been out to lunch so after a couple of beers it is not easy!

I will be interested in what ever you have as anything will help to track them down.

I did once find an obscure reference to a christening at St Pauls church Convent Garden but it then vanished and I have not been able to find it since,
There seem to be two medieval era families: one at Nottingham and the other at Radnor.

My dads uncle did a family history before he died and I found it listed in a book shop but when I enquired it had gone.

If anyone reading this has any offers please join in.

Hello
I, too, am a descendant of Frederick Rickards b. 1799 at Winkfield. Have come across possibly 2 of his siblings Henry Rickards b. abt 1796 and Mary Ann Rickards b. abt 1797. I have not come across  the John Rickards mentioned in this link. I would be interested to know more if any one is willing to share research notes.

Hello
My 3x great grandfather was Frederick Rickards born about 1799 at Winkfield. My line of descent is through his son Frederick baptised at Windlesham in 1823. I would be interested in contacting others with similar interests.
regards Rickie

I am new to Rootschat and still trying to find my way round

Hi all,

I am looking for a needle in a haystack.

My GGG Grandfather was Edward Rickards born abt 1799.  I am trying to trace his place of birth and parents.  He died in 1849 bedore the 1851 census so I don't now where he was born.
He was a coachman and in 1829 one of his daughters, Sophia was born in Bagshot.  Frederick Rickards was also in Bagshot at this time and was also a coachmanster.  Does anyone know if there is any connection between the two?  Could they be brothers?
