Hi All
I wonder if anyone has any suggestions as to where I might check next. I have a William Dowling who came from London c 1830. Neither his marriage nor his death certificate indicate exactly where. His birth date is estimated c 1818. His death cert states he was 83 years of age died 27th May 1901 at Mittagong NSW. The death register gives no indication of arrival date or ship. His cert states he was in the country for 71 years. Father's name William Dowling, no mother listed.
This means he was approximately 11 or 12 when he arrived.
Marriage cert dated 1853 gives no other personal details.
I with another rellie have checked shipping several times under Dowling and Dooley, and have gone to the NSW Archives site and checked the new additions.
Does anyone have any idea where else we might check?
Regards
Wren

Wren I wouldn't search just the years around 1830....the information on death certs only as good as the knowledge of the informant....
Cheers

Hi Jenn and Cando
Yes, his death cert says 71 years in NSw. Cando We made our search fairly wide. There was a convict William Dowling and we thought and this is purely conjecture as we have absolutely nothing to hang this on, that maybe our William may have been the son of this convict who followed him out later, so we did a fairly wide search of years. All to no avail.
We have been chasing this guy for fifteen years. still nothing.
Thanks
Wren
