Looking for any connections to this family.
Robert Spence was born 1775 in Crook Birsay. He was married twice. 1st marriage to Catherine Johnston who died between 1818 and 1820. They had 7 children that I have been able to find. His 2nd marriage was to Isoble Whitelaw born 1791 in Gersetter Birsay. They married in 1821. They had 8 children including my gg grandmother Ellen Spence born 1832 at Boardhouse Birsay. Robert was the miller at Boardhouse Mill.
Ellen married Captain James Hourston who was lost at sea in 1880 aboard the
"Maid of Orleans".

My dad was from Nether Stanger, Birsay. I checked our tree but don't have your Robert listed. Do you know any of his ancestors? I do have my side traced back to 1604.

Hi
thanks for your reply. I only know that Robert's parents were Robert Spence and Margaret Peebles.
I have quite a few Stanger's married into my tree

I mentioned that I didn't have him listed in my tree, but once you gave me his parents, I was able to connect him. I do have Robert Spence and Margaret Peebles listed. His grandfather (John) was the brother of Magnus: my g-g-g-g-g-grandfather. Their father was William (b.1632 in Ingsay, Birsay). I just finished the SPENCE book - or at least I thought I was finished Ha!Ha!
If there is anything you need, just ask. I have submitted it to the LDS Family Research Centre.
I would love more information on your connection and the descendants of Robert (b.1775)

Hello,
I realize that the post and thread are quite old, however I discovered it when researching my family history after many years. Robert Spence, b1775 is my g-g-g-g grandfather. He is father to Mary Brown (nee Spence) b1822 and son of Robert Spence and Margaret Peebles. That is as far back as I have been able to trace. Would be interested in discovering the family tree further back and learning about other descendants.

Hi!
I was very interested to read your post as I didn't have any information on Mary. I would be happy to exchange information.
