£1.83 per week inc. Vat.

You would have had to pay Vat before - it's not exempt  :-\

If you can find any offers around for new members, and call them, you may well get the offer price.  I did in January!  There was 20% off at the time, so the nice lady said I could renew for that as well.

If you live abroad you don't have to pay the UK's VAT  ;)

I had an email from Ancestry last week telling me that my subscription due at the end of July will be £83-40.
£1-60 per week,cheaper than an M and S sandwich  ;D

I wonder why everyone's is so different?

We've had a similar discussion before. The fee does seem to be very variable - and negotiable! I managed to get a significant discount.

You never know though  ;D

I'm sure my quotes have been in US dollars and then get converted but I have World membership so maybe that's why.

They want £83.20 from me when my sub is up on August 3rd but they will not be getting it as I have set my account to automatically cancel and I will see if they send me a discount deal via email as there seems to be a suggestion that they will do this to try and get you back. I can't be arsed phoning them up as I had to go through that last year and the lady while friendly was quite hard work as she couldn't grasp what I was saying. I did get a reduction in the end but it paines me that you have to go down this route in the first place and it annoys me even more that people on the same subs are paying differing amounts.

hi Alan i know what you mean why can't ancestry just charge everyone the £66 or give you the 20% discount when you automatically renew like another site does it is worth the hassle though i was on it for about 7 hours last night lol and found some new rellies
