Hi People
I was looking on familysearch.org and found a possible marriage for my ancestor within thurmaston..
So I duly clicked on the link to find the following alarming name!!
Henry Smith /Elizabeth Fucks March 31st 1755 Thurmaston
I checked the thurmaston records and I cant find these pair...
Can anybody help as I am not convinced, especially by her name
All the best
Darryl

Hi just a quick update
I went to the Records office today and I did not find a record for these pair under the Thurmaston,Barkby,Belgrave & Humberstone parishes, although on familysearch it states there is a record..
I will keep this on the backburner for now....
Kind regards
Darryl

Hi Darryl, Great to find someone with the same problem on Henry Smith 1730 ? Thurmaston and wife Elizabeth {last name on IGI is rude as you found} He is my 5th great grandfather they had 8 sons and 3 daughters. one son, John Smith 1761-1846 who married Mary Harris 1761-1841 is my link from Henry.
We were told that their were only 2 main smith family's in Thurmaston for 200 years.
One being Henry/Elizabeth, the other was William/Sarah price, both of these families had sons called John Smith both born in the same year died different dates.
My John was married to Mary Harris as I have said, and the other John Smith 1761-1829 married Ann Ilston 1762-1797.
Where is your link to this family and have you had any other information since 2008 Elizabeth F----s question.
Bye for now

this site:
http://leicestershireparishrecords.blogspot.com/2010/05/phillimores-marriages-thurmaston-1719.html
has thurmaston marriages from the Phillimore volumes. however 1755 is missing apparantly - vol 1 goes up to 1754 and vol 2 starts 1756! may be worth looking for other family members though.

Hi
I have always known it to be Sarah Barfoot.. 1851 census also states Sarah was born Thurmaston.
Marriage 31.10.1818 Thurmaston.
I have the picture of the Headstone it just states Thomas Smith & Sarah Smith, the inscription is quite bad but I think it says Sarah, Born May 1799 but could say 1800
All the best

I say this as William only goses by the name William in his fathers will and I can't even remember where we found it but his children and grandchildren use it.

All my Smiths for 4 generations came from thumaston and belgrave it was only my grandfather who moved down to Bath somerset to set up as a dentist he broke the chain

Hi Ann
Jane Pole who married Valentine Derry is definitely in my tree, and Elizabeth Pole who married Thomas Smith is likely to be. We have two Elizabeth Poles - one we have b.1791, and the other b.1793. Do you know her parents names? As you can see from my thread on John Pole, it all becomes very complicated, and in a read through Phillimores for all these parishes, I can fall over names from my tree (or names that I know from friends of my mother) every two or three entries.
I recently found Valentine & Jane's daughter, Sarah in an Australian tree at www.pattersonsdomain.com but the administrator felt that Jane's antecedents were too distant to include in his tree! Incidentally, Jane was the daughter of Charles Pole b.1713 and Sarah Brewood b.1712.
I have lots of other Pole information, even though we sometimes have doubts raised about some of the links.

Many thanks for the information, we have tried for 18months to try and sort this out and all we could find, my 4th great great grandfather was John Smith 1761-1846 who married Mary Harris , one of his sons william 1782 and his son Joesph William miles smith 1824-1904 went to Australia and had 10 children so there is a lot of smith familys over there {cousins x removed} who only link with William 1782 my link is with John Smiths other son John smith 1761.
Years ago we thought John Smith's {1761-1846} mother was william smith 1788 and sarah price 1732 and back 2 more genarations then a David Smith in Hampshire informed me they where his line and said there where 2 john smiths in that year born
his was John Smith 1761-1826 but the 2 familys do join later when cousins married.
He told me to look for Johns Father Henery about 1730 so we looked and found Henery married an Elizabeth ?? we only got the name Fukes?? from IGI but no proof so could be any Elizabeth.
I have been doing my tree for 4 years now and boy it's not as easy as we think but thats why I always try and get proof.
I do belong to the thurmsaston family history but have never had the check to ask for their help.
There is a lot of my desendence in belgrave cematrey.
I have in my tree, Smith, harris, pole, breedon, Hall, bentley,KInton, mowbray, Derry, Vann etc all from up there {all on my fathers side
Oh I'm sorry I'm rambling on but it's great when someone can help as I always help out when people ask my advice {if I can}
Once more many many thanks
Ann nee Smith
{in Somerset}my grandfather broke the chain when he came to somerset as a dentist from Belgrave
