Hi,
I'm hoping to find someone with access to a surname index for the 1851 census of Staffordshire (not sure if one exists).
I have some members of a family that I am looking for I do not think they are in the same house but believe that they are in Staffordshire - their father died their in 1850 and their mother in 1849.
I don't know what town to look in they had a sibling in Penkridge in 1851
They are all spinsters and they would be aged as below in 1851 and I suspect they are not in the same house (though they were in 1841).
Elizabeth Wood 40 born Stafford
Fanny (or Francis) Wood 36 born Stafford
Julia Wood 33 born Codsall Stafford
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Jenny.

Thanks for looking Bryant. I will be more careful with my i's and e's next time.
The family you have found in 1841 is the one I am looking for the daughters from in 1851.
Ann (d 1847), Christopher (d 1850) and Maria (d 1849) died before 1851. I know the girls were left an inheritance from their fathers will, I also suspect that Julia could have been in an institution at that time.
Chrisotpher had sold the house in Oaken Codsall by 1850, and as Maria died in Cannock I suspect they also had a house there (they were fairly wealthy).
I have an unmarried Frances Wood in the 1881 census who could be my Fanny but I have no real way of proving it.
Fanny WOOD Head U Female 66 Cannock, Stafford, England
I was hoping that in 1851 they would not have separated or would be living with relatives but have had no real luck searching in either direction. I have all their married siblings and their unmarried brother and they are not there.
I also now know that Elizabeth married in 1853 in Paris ... so they may have gone overseas following their fathers death. I haven't tried to track her in Paris yet.
I will just need to keep searching. My real curiosity is about what happened to them. I know what happened to Julia she travelled and later got involved in funding the New Forest Shakers and her brother (CoE priest) ended up putting her in an institution for the rest of her life. It would just be interesting to see what fate dealt the other two girls.
Thanks for the other family - they may be an indirect line but Christopher Wood only had a sister named Catherine who married a man named Morris so it would be relatively remote from the main line I am searching for.
Thanks again for looking at this after so much time.

I think it's about time to start a new post for 1851/1861 in the open census requests section (as you don't know where they are)
Julia is the one that should be findable if she hasn't married and is alive? would she have gone travelling straight after her Mother and Father's death or would she have left it a couple of years first? the later seems more likely............ I gather that Ann died Codsall and Christopher died Cannock the same as Maria?
Include in the post all the details from the 1841 and add the death years of the individuals and keep your fingers crossed
Regards
