??? Bruce had a son called James Bruce b: 24 Jan 1782 who married Agnes Henderson on the 24th Jan 1806, at Leith South Parish. James had a son called Robert who emigrated to New Zealand and married a Maori woman.
I am very new to this and cannot find any more information on the net so far . I would like to find out who James Bruce's parents were and further if possible.

Hi Charlie, welcome to rootschat :)
Do you mind me asking where you got the dates from? It is unusual to have such an exact date of birth without more information to go with it. I see there are a couple of submitted entries on the IGI for this couple but they are conflicting. The years of birth for Robert vary quite widely.

Hi again
Scotlands People have the marriage in the OPRs confirming the date as 24th January 1806, but the bride is given as ANN Henderson.

Hi Kirsty
I got the information from the LDS records. That is the only place I have seen reference to their names. I presume Ann is a shortened version of Agnes.

Hi Charlie
Do you have all the children for James Bruce and Agnes/Ann Henderson?

Hi Charlie
The IGI has :
Thomas b 3 Jun 1825 Blotter Edinburgh. This is an extracted record indicating that it was filmed from parish records.can usually be trusted.
James Bruce b 17 Jan 1818 Edinburgh Death 7 Sep 1898 This is a submitted entry by a LDS church member be wary of these and double check
Agnes b 22 Oct 1814 Edinburgh parish Edinburgh. Extracted
Margaret b 4 May 1823 Ed parish Edinburgh. Extracted
The earliest male is William and the earliest female is the first Jane - if they followed the scottish naming pattern James' father would be a William Bruce. However I'm a bit suspicious of William being the first born son - James & Agnes were married in 1806, Jane was born in 1807 and then nothing until William in 1810. There is time for at least 1 or two children between William and Jane. Strong possibility that Agnes' mother was a Jane.
If you post a query on the NZ board with the details of Robert that went to NZ - what proof do you have? Do you have a record of his ship arrival date etc? When you post the query give as much information as you have and where you got it from and if you don't know or are not sure say so.
I would hunt through the IGI and SPeople for marriages of a Bruce to a Jane something. Start off by using the male children's names.
If I can help futher don't be afraid to ask
Joy :) :)

Hi Joy
Thank you for your time and efforts...............Where does Thomas come into it? We have not yet found a Thomas anywhere in our searching. It seems you are very advanced with your genealogy.
I find it quite frustrating trying to find the correct places to search.
Many thanks
Charlie
