Title: Ulster Scot AIRDRIE family HELP Please
Post by: Shanty on Monday 14 July 08 01:40 BST (UK)
I'm hoping I can get some leads from those with Co. Down resources.  Records for my Airdrie family in Ireland can found in and around Donaghadee, CO Down.  The majority of the records for the AIRDRIE's indicates only "Ireland"  but the dates they travelled from Scotland to Ireland and back to Scotland tell me they can be added to the list of "Ulster Scot" names although spelt in many forms - Ardrie, Airdre, Airdry, Airdrey, Ardie, etc.  One name which appears to still be prevelent in Ireland is Ardry which I have not completely ruled out as being related but I have only found one instance of this spelling out of several for one of the family members.

There are a few tidbits that I have found in Ireland but it isn't easy.....
If found a grave index at http://www.historyfromheadstones.com/index.php?freesearch.  The Ulster Scot Foundation website is also helpful but it's search is cumbersome and I haven't found much there.  Without paying an arm and a leg or travel from here in Canada to Ireland, I'm stuck!  Please help.

Hi Shanty,

As a matter of interest, have you looked at the items mentioned in Christopher's thread on this board -- '21 miles across the sea to Scotland'?
