Hello HiFly. Only one gravestone for Powton.

Joseph Powton, died February/10/1889 aged 9 years.

There are another two deaths for Powton(without a gravestone)

John Powton, died 14/March/1897 aged 2 years, Stanley, Crook.
Alexander Powton, died 24/November/1865 aged 2 years, Stanley, Crook.

Sorry no names of parents. I has a look at the other catholic records to see if there were any baptisms or marriage records but there were none for Powton or the variation of Powton.

I have the following note from the Crook catholic baptismal registers:

John George, son of William Poutin (sic) and Emma Brooks
born 15th May 1888: bap. 20th May 1888
sponsored by:
Patrick Brennan and Ann Devine?
mar: (1) Ann Bills 8th May 1910 Crook
mar: (2) Ellen Muscroft 8th August 1965 St Anne's Cathedral, Leeds.

This tallies with a branch of my family who intermarried with the Bills family from Crook and later moved to Leeds.

William and Emma Pouten (sic) also sponsored Arthur son of John O'Connor and Jane Lawless at Crook in December 1891.

Hello J.T.A. Found them. No wonder I missed them. There were a variety of spellings for Powton.
Gulielmus and Emma (maiden name Brooks) had 6 children baptised at Crook.

Hello E. And welcome to Roots Chat. That took some sorting out:) Here is the one from , St Cuthbert's Catholic Church, Crook.

In your charity pray for the soul of John Kavanagh of Howden le Wear. who died may/16/1903 aged 34 years.
Also Mary Kavanagh, niece of the above, who died June/19/1903 aged 6 years.

Although the above were from Howden le Wear and buried at Crook Catholic Church could I also point out that there is another Kavanagh gravestone at Howden le Wear and that that is not a Catholic Church.

Remember keep the threads separate, so if you want that one go to the Howdon le Wear Thread.

Thankyou Adam. I think it may have been me that should have apologised! My American contact has given me a few more names - one of whom was a Thomas Carroll who may have been Patrick Trainor's father in law. Thankyou once again!

Hi Adam,

When you have the time would you please be able to look up both Carlin and McAnulty.

With sincere thanks,

Janet.

Hello Janet. Sorry the name was Carling and not Carlin.

Here is the Mc Anulty inscription:-

James McAnulty died April/16/1913
Alice McAnulty died October/?/1901
Patrick McAnulty died March/?/1916
Thomas McAnulty died March/?/1918.

That stone is unusual because it does not give any ages ( It is also badly affected with lichen)

Hello Corne Rinaldi and welcome to Rootschat.

Sadly Adam died a few years ago, and his memorial inscription records are no longer available. I thought all his look-up offer threads had been locked, but this one must have been missed. I'll ask a moderator to lock this one.
