Title: Certificate - Faster than a speeding bullet!!
Post by: trish251 on Tuesday 08 July 08 09:48 BST (UK)
On 27 Jun I ordered a marriage certificate from GRO - despatch date given as 3 July

It reached the Brisbane, Queensland mail exchange 7 July and was in my mailbox by 9am 8th July. The print date is July 1, so it may have been posted before the 3rd - unfortunately there is no postal date on the envelope.

I am so impressed - Took my folks 7 months to get to Australia in 1833  ;D

To get a certificate from the Qld BDM registry - about 20 km from where I live takes 8 weeks. I am going to send the registrar a scan of these details  ;D  ;D

Trish

Edit:  If you have any ideas as to the name of the Vicar - much appreciated

The only relatively common name I can come up with for the vicar's name is Margetts.  Though it looks more like Mcargetts or Mcarzetts.  If it's not an M at the beginning, then what about something like Heargetts or Hearzetts?  They'd be unusual names though, I think.

If you post the date and details of the church, you never know someone might just happen to have the list of vicars of that church to hand!

There are a couple of Frederick Thomas Margetts births in freebmd.   Depends what year it could possibly be for him.

Wow that's certainly a fast response on the certificate!

I thought mine was fast,  posted application to Mold, North Wales last post last Thursday 2nd July, received birth cert Saturday morning 4th July.  Can't get much quicker, either of them, yours or mine  ;D

Thank you both for your replies - I went searching on the Times Archives and found him as F T C Margetts - so you have him correct - sorry, I should have mentioned the year was 1884

I think your certificate was slightly quicker than mine Silvery - although you do have the advantage of Saturday deliveries - we lost those at least 40 years ago  :o

I received one today that I ordered on the 1st July, by my reckoning that's only 8 days from ordering to my letter box with a weekend in between.

Excellent service  :)

And it only cost just over $14 aussie dollars  ;D  ;D  ;D .

I'm sure that's quicker than in the UK!

It's usually about 10 days before I get certificates I order from the GRO - and I'm only about 40 miles from the GRO in Southport!

Trish/Sue - I'm sure the staff at the GRO would appreciate hearing your praise, if you felt like dropping them an email.

Good idea Aulus, I'm very happy to do that.

Blimey Sue, that is speedy!!  GRO, Royal Mail, and Aus Mail must have all been on top notch form.

Hi Sue

You must have caught the exchange rate on a better day than me  :(  or have a more friendly credit card! Mine was $14.87 , about which I have no complaints, as in the past I have paid much more.  :)
