Title: Marriage Lookup Please
Post by: Candidiasia Ibberrson on Monday 07 July 08 19:44 BST (UK)
Can somebody help me in locating a marriage betwen Louisa Wells and Edward W Bullen.

Louisa was born 1853 Scruton Yorkshire

On the 1871 Census she is Servant, where born is down as Senton which is incorrect.

On the 1881 Lousia is the wife of Edward W Bullen with children.

I cannot find a marriage for these two people

Please help.

Thanks
Candis

Hi Candis,

Like you I'm having trouble finding the marriage.

1871 census image does actually say birthplace Scruton, by the way, Senton must just be a mistake in the index.  I see she is in Lepton, Huddersfield, wonder if she got married in that area, Scruton, or Middlesbrough where their first child was born in 1875/6
Louisa could possibly have married before, so her surname would then be different when she married Edward Bullen
(his birth reg: Mar 1848  BULLEN  Edward Wilson  Holbeach  14   446)

Will check the full GRO index  Bullen might be spelled oddly but Wells should be easy to find

Where did you find that, and who are the possible spouses?
In 1871 census unmarried aged 19  ???

On Free bmd Mar 1860

Houstoun Archiblad Campbell
Thompson Hannah Mary
Wells Louisa
Wilson Alfred

All York 9d 84

It might not be her as you said it states on the 1871 census she is unmarried so maybe that is of no help.

I never take anything for granted in this game  :)  Do you have access to 1861 census to check out the two couples and eliminate them either by age or birthplace?

Hang on a minute, why am I looking for this.  1860 is far too early for Louisa to marry anyone   ::)

Back to the drawing board  :)

Have checked GRO index for marriages for Louisa Wells from 1871-1876 inc and found nothing in the Yorkshire area.

Maybe they didn't get married at all.
Perhaps if you were to get one of the children's birth certificates it might show something useful, whether she had been married before, etc.
Edward's birth is registered 1876 Middlesbrough and you can order it through the website at
