I am looking for any information on the Dunne family of Milltown Westmeath. Patrick Dunne & Margaret (O) Shannessy / Shaunnessy, son John born c. 1842 married Margaret Mc Gauly, Ballymore . John migrated to Australia 1870's with wife & daughter Margaret.
Thanks Helen

Just chipping in with this based on the subject heading but if it rings any bells with you Helen - or anyone for that matter - I'd appreciate if you'd be good enough to wave in my direction! :)
I have a Roseanne Dunne in my tree who died in Nov. 1925 & is buried in Coralstown Cemetery, Kinnegad (where this is in relation to Milltown I've no idea TBH). According to information at time of death she was born in 1883.
I'm just thinking that she may have been buried in her home county, hence making her a Dunne of Westmeath. Hoping this may mean something to someone.
Sean.

Hi Sean, not been pushy but you would stand a much better chance of finding something out if you also done a post about Roseanne on the Westmeath board in it's own right, at least you have an area to work with Coralstown Kinnegad,is Dunne her married name or maiden name? I'll have a hunt around for you & if I see any thing that maybe of any info I'll get back to you, good luck,Nipy

The fact I have zero info (in terms of firm dates) apart from the death cert & burial plot of Roseanne sorta made me reluctant to throw it up on the board in it's own right, but guess you're right Nipy. A shot in the dark but you never know, eh? :)
Dunne is her maiden name by the way. Married a Joseph Coghlan. I'm guessing she's Westmeath stock as she died first and hence would have no particular reason to be buried in Westmeath other than the fact that she originated there.
Cheers for the reply Nipy.
Sean.

HI, I should have said that Milltown is about 35km from Kinnegad with Mullingar half way between the two towns,Coralstown cemetery is on the way out of Kinnegad going towards Mullingar, this info won't be much use but it can give you some bearings, also Sean it is worth putting Roseanne's details on it's owe post as you say you never know some one may come along with info - regards Nipy

I have a gg gfather named Thomas Dunne who lived in Clonmellon, Co Westmeath in mid 19th century. Of his sons (who moved to Kells, Co Meath c. 1872) I have not been able to trace sons James Joseph or Michael and their families. it is possible they , or at least one of them, travelled to Australia in the latter part of the 19th century. His youngest son Terence definitely went to Melbourne in the 1880s but returned to London and died there approximately 1890 (in his early 30s). I also know that two other brothers, John and Patrick, stayed in Ireland with Patrick (my ggfather) living in Kells, Co Meath.
If this rings any bells with anyone out there I would be glad to hear from you.
