I have my grandparents' marriage certificate, which I call the Jones Certificate.   The bride and groom were both Jones, therefore so were the fathers, as were the witnesses, and the vicar, and believe it or not the Registrar as well  ???
Needless to say they were married in Wales.
Cheers Dave (Jones)

Well Dave, I guess it ia a million to one  you would be connected to my Jones's,    my grandfather was Daniel Jones  married to Elizabeth William in
1903 in Penrhiwceiber, and have found no one yet connected to this family,
Good luck with yours
                                Jenny ( nee Jones )

PS;  Having the same problem with my Smith's in London.

There use to be a postal service (sadly no longer available) where you could send details of your "Welsh" ancestors, and the service provider would use a programme to compute the most likely place in Wales that two (or more) surnames would "meet" base on a database of surnames in parish registers.

The providers claimed that the service was so accurate that they could pinpoint the most likely "meeting place" even of two Jones from Wales.

If all the names on a certificate were Jones, the most likely place that the couple would have met would have been the Bala / Llanuwchllyn area of Merioneth

Shame that the database and matching programme were never put on the internet it could be very useful, at worst it would have been great fun :)

Sounds like a great programme, however , in my case (or grandparents' case) it was north Cardiganshire - she lived in Trefeurig and he, an itinerant tailor, lived in Llancynfelin.   I guess he got about a bit  :)
There is a programme which uses the 1881 census to show the distribution of surnames - http://www.spatial-literacy.org/UCLnames/default.aspx - using this it shows the greatest concentraton of Jones was in the northern half of Wales.   My folks just squeaked into the area!!
Cheers Dave

No Jones yet but I do have surname Thomas in Wales which I got stuck on early in 1800's.  My main bugbears are a couple of lines in Norfolk with the surnames 'Smith' and 'Smythe'.  If anyone's found why they've got different spellings, I'm all ears  :D

Cheers,
Rena

Where should I post my JONES interests if they keep jumping back and to across the Welsh / English boundary? I think two posts would defeat the object!?

Anyway here they are:

Trying to find out what happened to my grt grandfather Maurice JONES’ siblings, I know my Nan would like to know too (she’s 80 you know!)

William JONES and Sarah Jane JONES (nee VAUGHAN aka HUXLEY) issue:

Jane JONES b. c1874 Rhosnessney – have in 1881 (Wrexham) with family but not there in 1891 (Wrexham) aged c17
Wonder if she is Jane JONES who d. Sept qua 1881, Wrexham aged 8?

William Herbert JONES b. c1877 Wrexham – have  in 1881 and 1891 with family but not located in 1901 – aged 24-26
Wonder is he the militia man in Beaumaris at the Prince of Wales Inn in 1901?

Charles JONES b c1878, Wrexham – have in 1881 but again not there in 1891 with family aged c13
Wonder if he is Charles JONES who d. Mar qua 1885, Wrexham aged 8?

Sarah A. JONES see post in http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,310799.msg1921207.html#msg1921207

Emily JONES b. c1881 Wrexham – not in 1881 but appears in 1891, she disappears in 1901.
Not sure if she still alive or married, too many possible results!

Phoebe JONES b c1881 – 1883 her age changes but did find her marriage in 1903, at St James, Latchford, Warrington to Ernest G. DOWNES
She is back in Wrexham on her mother’s death certificate in 1919.

Maurice JONES 1882 – 1965 m. 1904 at St Paul, Warrington and m. 1927 at St John, Earlestown, Newton-In-Makerfield

Frederick (Fred) JONES b. c1887, Wrexham – all we know is he had a small holding in Walton, Warrington.

Catherine JONES cFeb1888 – cJan 1889

Kate (Kitty) JONES b. c1890 Wrexham – have her in 1891 (Wrexham) with family and 1901 (Warrington) with family.

Hope that hasn’t confused everyone – it’s a work in progress!

If you want Jones, take a look at my direct lines:

http://www.ancestral-tales.co.uk/html/family_trees.html

You can click on any of the names, except James Wilson and you'll find them aplenty  :-\

I thought I only had one Jones until I started to delve. Was i glad when I got to the patronymics  ;D

I'll keep silent from now on! Poor you.  :-[ ;D

A death certificate for my possible Thomas JONES arrived today. He was only 47 and the cause was softening of the brain, paralysis 12 months certified. He died on New Years Eve 1865. A possible in-law Sarah WILLIAMS was present at the death.

Poor man, how sad.

hello all,
I am new to this forum, and just running around reading etc.

Lol.
Well you guessed it. I am looking for Jones too.
Except my Jones (where I am up to) is from Ireland. Matilda Jones b. 1862 who married an English soldier (Lancashire) George May.

Anyone have any idea where I can start to locate Irish Jones's? I have an idea they were from the north based on family stories, but ofcourse it's not definite.

thankyou in advance.
Matilda (yes I took the name as my handle). :)

PS: my husband is from the Thomas family. If you are related to the John Thomas line (the one who went to america in 1642) we have some info on that- the battlesex Jones....but ofcourse that's been well documented and should be easy to find.

Hi my Jones are from Herefordshire/Monmouthshire, so any possible links get in touch please.

However there is also the one name common interest board; http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,151.0.html

But I just came accross a topic by Bob which has what looks like a great site for us with Jones in our trees;

I was initially delighted to find that my ggmother's name was Mary Clayton before she became anonymous and married David Jones.   She was from Guilsfield, Montgomeryshire where there are many Claytons, so I'm no further forward, or should that be backwards.

At my daughter's wedding reception, my speech included the fact that it was the 4th successive generation of Jones & Jones. She married a Jones and I did the same. My wife's parents were both Jones and her mother's parents were both Jones. The generation before that was Jones and Roberts and before that it was Jones and Jones again. All documented with certificates. The principal factor here was they did not travel and the church records had all their details.
