Title: looking for records
Post by: melpractise on Wednesday 02 July 08 16:38 BST (UK)
Hi

I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find orphanage records (Brighton 1930s). Would they be available or 'sealed' ?????  Looking for James, William and George Saunders.

Also looking for criminal records (1930s brighton or hastings)

thank

Mel

I suspect the records you are looking for would be at the Lewes record office as Brighton was in East Sussex until it became a city.  Also the crown court (and prison) are in Lewes

Hi
You can search the catalogue online but you cannot see the actual documents.    Look up East Sussex Record Office or search the A2A site and specify records from the south east.  Some may be at Chichester Record Office too.

No Saunders in A2A East Sussex quarter sessions for that period, 5 cases 1819-47 of which 4 were transported. Pete
