John Glaves was in the RAF, Rank Seargeant, Squadron 150.
Grave/Memorial Reference: Coll. grave 9. B. 1-5.
Cemetery: HEVERLEE WAR CEMETERY
Looking for any information this young man. This young man was married to my Aunt Olive.

Son of John and Mary Ann Glaves, husband of Olive Edna Glaves.

Wellington X3745 on a mission to Frankfurt
Took off at 20.40 on the night of 8th from Snaith. Shot down by a night-fighter (Unteroffizier Kleinert, 5/NJG1) and crashed at Sart-St-Laurent (Namur), 11 km SW of Namur, Belgium.
All are buried in Heverlee War Cemetery.

Frankfurt
249 aircraft of 5 types. 5 Wellingtons and 2 Halifaxes lost, 2.8 per cent of the force.
The Pathfinders were unable to locate Frankfurt accurately and most of the bombing fell south-west of the city and in the town of Rüsselsheim, 15 miles away. Frankfurt reports only a few bombs - approximately 6 aircraft loads - with minor damage, 1 person dead and 30 injured. Bomber Command documents state that the Opel tank factory and the Michelin tyre factory were damaged.

Edward Sofaer was my Uncle, although he died before I was born. I would gladly give any information about him and his short RAF service to genuine interested parties.

The crew of the Wellington X3745 was the first crew to be buried on the Allied Cemetery of the base of Le Culot (Belgium), near the actual air base of the 1 Wing of Beauvechain.
Crew was reburied on the Heverlee War Cemetery on the 22 October 1946.
