Hi all,
Will be in Perth August this year & need to know if there are many cemeteries in Dunkeld preferrably older ones as I will be looking for MI's around 1750's -
1850's. Being rather optimistic I know, as any in the era may be in bad condition or non-existent.
Otherwise would like to know where I would go to access burial records in Dunkeld.
Thank you,
Tiffaney

Hi Tiffaney,
If you go to :
www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/PER/LittleDunkeld/index.html you will find that there are two burial places - Little Dunkeld Churchyard, and Little Dunkeld Cemetery. You will also find that there has been some transcriptions done.

Many thanks Isles...that's great. You've made my day!! :D
regards,
Tiff
ps. Why is it they are not in Dunkeld itself plse? Also I have of Dunkeld Cathedral...do they have a cemetery close by?
Also do you know which would be the closest Family History Society to Dunkeld or do they have their own?
Thankyou.

Go to www.genuki.org.uk/Societies/Scotland.html and you'll find that Perthshire is represented by the Central Scotland Family History Society, the North Perthshire Family History Group, and the Tay Valley Family History Society.
I may be wrong but I don't believe that there is a cemetery/ churchyard at the Cathedral. Perhaps one of the Societies could advise.
Added: I was wrong, there are gravestones at the Cathedral. If you log on to www.geograph.org.uk, and enter Dunkeld Cathedral you'll see them clearly in one of the photos.

Thank you again Isles,
Wonderful, time saving, info. Really pleased you found gravestones at Cathedral and have given me websites to search.
Your help is very much appreciated.
regards,
Tiff NZ :)

Hello Tiff, it's a while since you posted your query. Did you find the MIs you were looking for?

Thank you for your enquiry Jean.
Unfortunately didn't get a chance to spend time in Little Dunkeld but hope to go again in 2010.
Looked in Cargill cemetery with the help of a friend..no sign of my Marjery McLauchlan (MS Milne).
So my answer is no...unfortunately.

Hello again Jean,
Thank you very much for your kind offer.
McLauchlan (John, James, Wm) is the surname I'm looking for which of course at times has different spellings. MacLachlan/e etc. Was also looking for Marjery Millne but now think she my have been buried in Killspindie c1850...I supposed they have a cemetery.
Also have booklet I purchased which has Moulin Perth MI's if interested.
Nice to be in touch again Jean..hope all well with you.
Not getting notifications so sorry about my delay in replying to you.
Tiff :)

Dont know if any of you can help me but this was the only other thread that I could find pertaining specifically to Dunkeld Perth.
I am looking for the parents and ancestors of one Alexander McIntosh who was born at Redgorton ( or Dull ) Perth on 14 Sep 1788
Alexander McIntosh married Elizabeth ( Ann ) Stewart 20 May 1802, These individuals appear in the 1841,1851,1861 Scottish Census and the Dunkeld Church records, together they had issue John b. 1825, Peter b 1831, Henry b 1832, Gordon b. 1 Jun 1834, Charles b. 1837, Elizabeth b 1840 and Neil b. 1843.Records show them as living in Moulin Parish Perth and Dunkeld Perth. The children appear to have all been born in Redgorton Perth. There may have been other offspring as I did not find Gordon on the census records but did find him in the IGI databases showing the correct parents and location.
Alexander's father appears to have been John McIntosh. This John may be the son of Alexander McIntosh who married Grizel or Grissel McNab on 2 Feb 1784 . From this marriage there were 5 children including an Alexander who was born at Moulin Parish.
However, there are two John McIntoshs listed for Moulin parish and both have a son named Alexander. I am trying to make a connection to the right John.
The Charles above noted is my g.g.g.garandfather who imigrated from Dunkeld in the 1860-70's and settled into Allens Township Scott County Iowa. His sons then moved to Il. First in Rock Island Il and later Chicago.
Charles b. 1837 was married to Mary Leslie also b. 1837 and had a son named Gordon who in turn had a son Donald Scott who had a son Donald Gordon, who had a son Gordon Donald, my brother.
If you can help with any of these people it would be appreciated. Perhaps I can pin Alexander down by way of one of his brothers.

Hi Jean,
Would be extremely interested if you could look in MIs for Dunkeld Cathedral, Little Dunkeld & Birnam for MacLauchlans (they have been spelt various ways but not with a "g" or lin).
The furtherest I have been able to go back is my g.g.grandfather
John McLauchlan b: 1801 Dunkeld who came to NZ in 1855.
Who I would dearly love to find are his parents & siblings.
I know it is a long shot but hope to be back there again 2010 (last time) & would really love to find them. There may have been a brother Robert. John's son's names were John, William & James & daughters Ann & Majory (after wife).
Your lookup would be wonderful Jean,
Many thanks,
Tiff
