Sorry, Tony, that I can't help further - the inscriptions list is from 1975, (with 1427 entries), but no current map.
The Arbroath Shoppie website picture gallery has photographs of Arbroath Abbey.

Did you have any luck with a photograph ?

I wonder if there is anyone able to take photos of headstones at Arbroath Abbey for someone in the US? I can provide the names and grave numbers. At this time I know of 2 or 3 burials.
Thank you,
Amy Cargill

Hello Amy,
If you give me the names etc I will try to do that for you. I have a Memorial Inscription book for the Abbey. No guarantees , however as the stones may not be there now. The council remove fallen or broken stones. Anway, I shall see what I can do. If I can then I will send you a personal message with my e-mail address s owe can contact that way. Easier than posting on here.
I live within a mile of the Abbey , so it would not be a problem.
Alex.

Hello Amy,
In my MI book I found an inscription for George and others. It reads
"David Hogg, Mason , 15.3.1881 age 74. Widow Margaret balfour 15.4.1866 age 53. Daughter Elizabeth 6.1857 age 8. Daughter Jane 19.7.1866 age 15. Son George lost at sea 10.1861 age 31, his mother-in-law Elizabeth Robertson 22.3.1858 age 82, daughter Ann survives. George M Boath died Montrose 22.9.1886 age 42, his son Robert 3.10.1885 age 3yrs 8mths"
Now, on adjacent stones there are the following.
" 1883 by David Hogg and margaret Balfour In memory of children Agnes died in infancy, David 26.7.1867 age 27 "
" By David Hogg, mason and Margaret Balfour In memory of sons Alex 22.9.18349 age 15 James 12.7.1834 age 9mths "

Oh this is certainly them! Thank you so much for the inscriptions. This is very helpful. George and Ann Boath were my great great grandparents.
Is there a way to check the list for Annie Menmuir Cargill? I have no date for her death, only that it was after the 1901 census and she was born in August 1839. I have a feeling that she is not there but anything is possible. Her husband was buried in Rattray Churchyard in 1871 but she is not there either. Having trouble finding her.
Thanks again!
Amy

Alex,
Would you mind just clarifying the death date for Alex Hogg? The year has one too many numbers.
thanks,

There is a woman who has posted images from the Abbey graveyard on Find A Grave.com. In her profile she mentions checking with her to see if she has images that may match your relatives. I was thrilled to see an image of Samuel Christie posted there my 3x ggf. User name: Kath~SL
