I am looking for any information on the following Cameron families from Ullapool.
Donald Cameron b. 1771 married Margaret McLeod b. 1786.
Children: Alexander Cameron b. 1810 Lochbroom
Catherine Cameron b. 1811 Lochbroom
Kenneth Cameron b. 1812 Leckmelm, Lochbroom d.1855
Braes of Ullapool.
Kenneth Cameron b 1812 m. Elizabeth Ross b. 1824 d. 1911
Children: George Cameron b. about 1846 Ullapool, Lochbroom d.1935
Fintray, Aberdeen.
Mary Cameron b. 1848
Catherine Cameron b. 1850 d. 1883
Isabella Cameron b. 1852 d.1895
Kennina Cameron b. 1855 d. 1855
George Cameron married 1874 to Eliza Mclennan b.1853 Ullapool, Lochbroom.
Eliza’s parents were Kenneth Mclennan and Annie Stewart?
Children:
Eliza(Lizzy) b. 1875, Contin ROC
Kenneth John b. 1877, Lochluichart ROC
Annie b. 1879 Rosemarkie ROC
Donald b. 1881 Rosemarkie ROC
Catherine b. 1884 Rosemarkie ROC
Margaret(Maggie) b. 1888 Kilmorack InvernessShire d. 1970
Fortrose, ROC.
Margaret married around 1917 to Donald Cameron. Donald was born 1890 and died in 1972. His mother was Ann Cameron. Margaret and Donald lived in Fortrose, Rosemarkie in 1924 (may have been earlier) until their death. Margaret died 1970 in Black Isle South. They had 2 sons born somewhere between 1917-1924. Margaret had another son, William Cameron (my Grandfather), born 1913 in Rosemarkie at the Black Isle Poor House and died in 2005. Father unknown.
My Grandpa came to Canada in 1930 and lost all contact with his family.
I’m hoping to find out more about Margaret’s other children. One may be Donald George Cameron born around 1922 and died in 1975. I have contacted a genealogist to get a transcribe birth and death certificates and should know in a couple weeks. The other may be Eliza. The only thing I know about her is that she may have married a Watson.
I’m also hoping to find out more on Donald Cameron and Margaret McLeod. I have census records that place them in Braes of Ullapool and Leckmelm but haven’t been able to find any birth, marriage or death records. Donald disappeared from the census after 1851.
I have an online family tree at Ancestry.com with more info from census, birth, death and marriage records I’d be happy to share. Please contact me if anyone knows more about this family.
Thank You

Hi Vicki
Welcome to Rootschat :)
Unfortunately the Lochbroom parish records don't start until the 1790s so other sources have to be resorted to - Kirk Session minute books, etc. :(
It might be worth you contacting the Ullapool Museum though:

I have contacted the museum but they don’t have anything more than I already know. I will check the kirk sessions next though.

hi there,
I have been researching my Ross roots and the Elizabeth Ross you mention is one of them. Her father was George Ross, married in 1802 atLochbroom to Mary Macdonald of Balblair. They lived at No 1 Braes and the croft still stands!!!! (although a wreck now)
Elizabeth's brother , William is my ancestor. He married Barbara MacLean in Lochbroom. Elizabeth Cameron of Braes had a child just shortly after Kenneth's death...another Kenneth born 14.6.1855...a month after old Kenneth's death. I notice that on old Kenneth's death certificate ...he lived at Braes for 21 years. Also Margaret born 4.10.1850 and another one...George..born 28.7.1847. There were other children but I dont have that info to hand right now.
All the best,
Moggiemo

Hiya!
I have a George Ross, Deputy Collector of Customs at Ullapool in that period, however a different wife; Sheila Ross of the Gladfield and Aldie family with a long genealogy. Sheila died 1816, but George and daughter still there 1819.
Ross was not a common surname in the area, is it possible your George was married twice?
Donald.

Hi Vicki
You may have found the above link but just in case - it is a picture of the gravestone of Donald and Margaret Cameron in the Old Fortrose graveyard. A little further along the same web site is a picture of Donald Gordon Cameron, hard to believe they would be related and the fact not mentioned on the stones.
I was brought up in Fortrose and left in 1984 when I was 25, but I am sorry I can't recall the Camerons (which might suggest that they lived in Rosemarkie as Fortrose in those days was not a big place).
Incidentally my father was born in Lochbroom, so you never know we might find we are related :-)
If you need something looked at in the Fortrose area just shout, as I now live nearby.
best
Iain
