Title: Edgar Morton of East Yorkshire
Post by: stm345 on Friday 27 June 08 05:07 BST (UK)
I am trying to find out about my paternal grandfather Edgar Morton, born 1881, married Charlotte Ann Rispin, born 1880. They were married in 1902 and in 1912 Edgar traveled to the USA.

I was told by my father that he was supposed to travel on Titanic, but could not get a ticket as they were all sold. So it must have been sometime close to Titanics sailing that he went. I was also told that he stayed in the USA and died there around 1920..of pneumonia I believe.

A date of passage and embarkation and landing ports would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't found anything for him going to or in the US.  However, I did find a death in Toronto, Canada for an Edgar Morton.  He was age 34 and born in England.  He died 21 Feb. 1919 at Parkdale Hospital of pneumonia of one week's duration.  He was a laborer.  It's hard to read, but I think it says he was married.  No parents' names were listed.  His place of burial was Park-Lawn.  The physician's name was J.W. Russell of 1084 College, and the informant was N.A. Craig of 1255 Queen W.

Thank you so much for your efforts!

His birth date is accurate, 1881, so that would have made him 37/38 at that time..... but everything else fits. I suppose they could have got his age wrong if they didnt have very much information about him?

Ancestry has his birth date as "abt. 1882" in the search results.  On second look, the age could be 37.  The handwriting involved isn't totally clear to me.

The transcription here:  http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=0  also says that he was born 1882.  So, at least two people think it's 37.

Once again, thank you.  He may well be the one, as the details of why he went and where exactly he went to are sketchy at most.

BTW Shellyesq, that link you posted to family search only took me to the home page... would I have to pay to see the information you obtained?

No, the familysearch site is free, but, as far as I can tell, it only gives transcriptions for the Ontario deaths.
